Going To My First Concert

Stampede

Recommended Posts

There is a 12 hour music festival, mainly heavy rock and metal. A lot of our major metal groups are going to be performing. Some of you may have even heard of Seether. They perform with Evanescence (the lead of Seether and the lead of Evanescence are a couple.)

Highlights include Metallica, I'm not such a big fan of theirs but I do like their mainstream stuff, Collective Soul...who I do like and for some odd reason that stupid git Fatboy Slim. Why the hell he's going to be there I don't know.

I've never been to a concert before, but my better half loves Metallica and Seether.

I don't like crowds or loud noises... :D

Same here. But I have found out that I can go to concerts anyway, if I REALY like the ones who are playing. But it was hard to come over the first time

Good luck Stampede! and have fun :)

Thanks buddy, yeah...for someone who does not like crowds or loud noises, I certainly chose the right concert to pop my cherry on.

Sounds more like a festival than a concert to me.

I thought Evanescence broke up? Or is it just Amy Lee who's singing with the Seether guy (in which case it wouldn't be Evanescence...).

The sense of occasion often takes you places you didn't know you could reach. I've found the same at sporting events. Even though I'm not a sports fan I can be exhilarated by the atmosphere. You may well find that overcomes any irritation at the noise levels.

Yeah, you're right, it is a festival...but it's in a stadium with concert seating. I've bought 2 golden circle tickets. I don't know if Evanescence is still around or not...don't care really! :P Guess, I phrased my post badly, but I just mentioned them to help people identify Seether.

And yeah Malchik, I know exactly what you mean. I'm pretty sure that is what I will experience as well. At least I hope so.

Have fun! ;D

One of the immutable laws of concert attendance is that you will inevitably end up in front of a guy unfamiliar with the laws of physics, who will leap up and down enthusiastically with a full pint in his hand... half of which will slosh over you. Due to a corollary of this law there is also a 99.97% chance that there will be at least one person in your immediate vicinity who will sing along loudly and out of tune despite being unable to remember more than 37.5% of the lyrics.

If you are in the standing area, another one of those immutable laws dictates that the guy in front of you is at least a good foot taller than you, with shoulders the size of a wardrobe. However, he can be a useful bulwark against moshpit overspill, which might be at least part compensation (depending on his personal hygiene) for having to peer through his arm pit to see the stage.

If you don't like the noise, you might want to consider getting some good earplugs from a music shop, especially if there's a chance you might be near a speaker. :)

Thank you for the advice Theta, those are all scenarios that I have been playing over in my head. I'm going to keep as far away from any moshing as possible.

The ear plugs are an idea...but I think I would be pretty ashamed to wear them. I have quite a bit of time to prepare though, as the concert is in March, I bought my tickets today though...because they are selling out quicker than Richard Garriot did!

A hard rock and metal festival with concernt seating ... that sounds unique O.o I guess in regards to moshing there's only two possiblities:

a. There will be none (cf. concert seating)

b. The festival will be cancelled after an approximate time of 30 minutes because at least half of all the chairs has been demolished.

The seating factor does decrease some of the risks pointed out by theta (you might be able to peek around the ardrobe guys, and the drink-spilling people will mostly moisten themselves), but I have no idea how one would want to listen to a decent metal concert without at least a minimal amount of headbanging ... I'm curious what your observations on that point will be.

I think I heard a live track from a gig Metallica did and they got Fred Durst (shudder) to do it with them. He said something along the lines of "All I know is ain't nobody going to f***ing sit down when Metallica are playing, get the f*** up" in Durst fashion. Seems Metallica gigs and seating go hand-in-hand, probably because the only people that listen to them are fat computer nerds or people prone to chronic heart attacks.
