Qasid
Hey, I've got a 'problem', well not actually, but it is annoying. Comes to be many characters don't speak. I mean, no speech is heard when I talk to them, they don't move their mouth, and the subtitles below change every 2 seconds, and not always I can read that fast. What I wanna know is has anyone encountered this 'problem'? I mean, do all characters have speech for you, or has anyone gone through this or know how to solve it? Thanks :)
Gaudia
I've had that once with Maiq the liar. First and only time so far it happened for me. O-o
Qasid
Well it's happening to me with like half the characters in the game :'(

Perhaps it is caused by the sound card? Just the people you approach and talk (click) directly to are supposed to talk, right? The rest talk to eachother in subtitles? I get the subtitles of people talking to each other so fast that I can barely read them, and I'm not exactly a slow reader, so just curious if everyone is actually supposed to be talking in speech? Maybe I'm missing speech too. :) right now only people I directly talk to talk, and I assumed thats how its supposed to be.

I wonder if there are option or ini file settings that affect this or maybe it depends on how high end your PC is? I get spoken dialog for everyone so far that I've clicked on along with subtitles. (I haven't spoken with M'qaiq the liar yet.) For NPC's that are in conversation with each other, I can listen to the conversations but get no subtitles for those. ThetaOrionis01
I have a fairly low end PC, and I get all-voice dialogue (more's the pity - can't say I'm a fan of voice acting, especially when all NPCs of a given race + gender sound exactly the same), and voiced NPC random conversation. I get subtitles for the NPCs I've chosen to talk to, but no subtitles for NPCs' background conversations. You're missing some really exciting stuff about those mudcrabs down by the water, and the Fighters Guild's latest recruitment drive... Since it sounds more like a technical problem to me, I'm going to move this topic to the tech support forum. It might a problem with the soundcard (I heard that some Creative soundcards are causing Oblivion problems), the sound drivers, some other application trying to access the sound device perhaps, or just one of those annoying glitches which hopefully will be fixed in the patch. Have you played around with the audio settings in your options menu, and the .ini file?
Qasid
But if it *is* a tech problem, how come some actually play the speech? I mean, I get, for example, spoken dialog from, half the peasants, absolutely every single guard and soldier in the game, I get speech from Martin the emperor's heir, I get speech from the guy at the arcane university [not trevan, the other one], but it's majorly essential characters who're lacking speech. Oh and Mai'q the liar has voice for me. I say, it can't be a tech problem, for the thing is , if it was, the character would have animation, the mouth, eyes, etc, would move. But they don't, the subtitles show and that's all. Way too fast, by the way. It's not that I can't play - when it's important, the journal is there for something - but it's damn annoying. Ah, and about the subtitles out-of-face-to-face-talk, those can be checked in the options menu, alongside the general options, not under 'audio'. Check 'General subtitles'

Check 'General subtitles' The only way I know what people are saying to eachother is with those subtitles turned on - otherwise I just see their lips move, but hear nothing. At least then I have subtitles, though yes, they are much to fast. So some think its a sound card issue? as my drivers are new (Creative), not much else I can think of changing really.... anyone else?
Adras
I have this problem occasionally, but I just ignore it. What I found helps sometimes if you encounter a glitch (such as I summoned a bow and after the effect wore off, it would not let me bring out another weapon because I could not drop a summoned item) to do a quick save where you are, then do a quick load. It is like hitting 'Refresh' in your internet browser. I think that it just gives the game a minute to recooperate and figure just what in the heck is going on. Try that, and if that doesnt work, then maybe try updating your sound card drivers. I am going to try that on Wednesday when I am at my dad's house with the good computer.
