Mmorpgs And Why They Suck...

So much jealousy there... I really wish I'd gotten into this game when I first heard of it, instead of writing it off as just another MMORPG.

Nice humble origins of the frigate horde... after seeing the forum post about him taking down capital ships, kestrel-mobbing has been added to my EVE to-do list. It must be a beautiful (if very laggy) sight to watch.

My specialisation, the kessie. I used to solo Lvl3 combat missions in a t1 Kessie when I wanted a challenge. PVP, it can break any frig, T2 non AF Frig, (and 1vs1, I've left AFs in hull before I've been taken out) and a good few cruisers have gone pop to it. the last dessie in pvp I went against cracked in two volleys.

Roll on the Hawk Mk2, come Kali. will make the manticore look crap... (and I've never liked the handling of the manticore. it's too sluggish on the turn to fly manually)

I'll look into it, probably in 2-3 weeks once I get my Buzzard/Manticore flyable. Unless you think they have a use for a pilot who considers a Caracal a top-end ship (so would probably be flying a more expendable T1 frigate he can afford to lose)?

talk to 'em, see where it goes, or keep an eye out for me in the "TGFE" and particularly the "eve-radio" channels and I'll give you the intel on TGFE. for now, time to sleep though.

Mind posting that setup? After losing my second Caracal in two nights (and after just buying a full load of top-end named equipment too!), my bank account is a bit drained... so looks like I'm back to flying my old Kestrel. But I just tried the same level II mission that I'd been calling a joke before, and lasted not even 30 seconds before I was warping out with shields and armor completely gone.

At least it's lesson learned, shoot first, try to warp second... saw the pirate show up at 20km, hit autopilot to jump out and barely missed it. But I was slow realizing I was trapped and didn't start shooting back until my shields were already gone. Once I finally did, I one-volley-ed his shields, and was hitting his hull pretty hard... so I would've had a nice 2 million ISK bounty in my pocket if I'd been faster on the trigger!

Oh yeah... UberKestrel is going to be fun. But I'll still love my Manticore. Who cares about the poor turning... I'm thinking if I actually need to turn fast, I've screwed up somewhere. And the entire concept of the stealth bomber is too much fun to miss... invisible eggshells with sledgehammers = fun!

Mind posting that setup?

Highs: 4x Std Missile Launcher IIs Bloodclaw or Bloodclaw Fury missiles

4x Arbalest with bloodclaws works nicely if you're not T2'd up

Mids: Sheild Booster II

Cold-gas Arcjet AB,

P.W.N.A.G.E. Target painter, or if enough CPU, Sheild Boost Amplifier

Lows: Micro Auxilliary Power Core,

50mm rolled tungsten armour. (ablative, in case of blow-through)

it's not safe enough for deadspace lvl3s but it'll walk any lvl2 mission easy with half decent skills.

Jesus I miss this. Talking about ship setups and quibbling over 5 points of powergrid, knowing that those five are the difference between coming away from a fight a winner or a loser.

I remember the first war I was ever in, and after one night's poor hunting I found myself in a system with one of their members. I was in a... Ferox, I think. I'd been mediccing for the hunt and switched over to battle setup, and arranged a duel with this guy. Truly, I have never felt as nervous as I did waiting for that guy to show up. Then he did show up, dropped about 15 drones that ripped my shield-tank to shreds, and I barely made it out of there alive. But I've never ever felt the same rush of adrenaline as I did with that game.

I joined way too late to be around for the legendary stuff to happen. I was told stories about the Mo0 battles with developers in sooped-up battleships, that corp destruction (which caused a bloody security revolution in our corp apparently), and nostaglic talk about the EVE before Exodus.

Just as I left my firs corp to co-start my own, they had just been given one of the first Manticore BPOs. I remember late nights talking with the directors about how best to use it, to avoid flooding the market with BCs and Mantys so the price dropped. You can't get that in any other game that has ever been. I envy you guys supremely.

*Bump*

I joined EVE roughly a week ago, and must say that it is everything that I could hope for in an mmorpg. I'm a causual gamer at best, so EVE really helps out. My prior mmorpg exp was EQII which is essentially a massive Grind. I just finished my Gallente frigate lvl 4 and am working on my destroyer/cruiser so I can go hit pirates.

I'm flying an Incursus

High fitted out with 3 - 150mm railguns, using antimatter charge (15% damage with frigate sp). The other is 3 - 200mm autocanons with titanium sabot charge.

Mids: Shield Booster II

2 1mn MWD

Lows: WCS (not sure what type)

Small Armor repair I.

Got no armor yet, training for it though, I can wipe out most NPC pirates unless I get outnumbered. I have yet to PvP, but I sense I'd get killed. Eh.

I too am looking for a corp to join, so PM me if you're looking for a recruit, suze or peregrine. I'm in Duriplant right now at the FNA station training up my skills.

Hey, the Incursus is my favourite ship! :)

I've been playing for about 6 weeks now, and bought my first cruiser yesterday... but need to train up a few more skills to use it properly.

I've fitted mine out with 3 named 125mm railguns (loaded with tungsten ammo that gives me an optimal range of about 17km), afterburner, shield booster and webber, armour repairer and hull plates. It can tackle any level I mission, and quite a few level II's as well (though I've been told 'Human Cattle' is definitely not a frigate mission)

If you're looking for good level I agents I can recommend the Everyshore region - which also has the advantage of being nice and quiet. Even if I suspect at least one of my Federal Intelligence agents to be a double agent Caldari sympathizer ;D

Curse you, you temptors (is that a word?) I'd really love to get back into EVE, especially now that college is all but over and I have plenty of free time. But I know that if I do, all the other stuff I want to do will get put back down the priorities list and never get done.

Enjoy the game guys, the best truly is to come. The feeling the first time to undock in your very own BS, taking down your first BS, the first PvP battle you didn't get wiped out it... Damn, that's a game. *Waves his hands frantically to get the attention of other developers* THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE!!! /endn00btype

By the way Theta, that's a pretty sweet Incursus set-up as far as I remember :D

I feel your pain Loveme, stopped playing in Jan 'cause of fincial constraints (lack of dsl didnt help either)

I cried when I lost my Incursus (got podded by a corp enemy) and was on the verge of unravelling the mysteries of ship setups, and about to graduate to battle ships.

I still want to go back but, not yet, not yet...

I'll tell a little story that shows the scope of what the real heroes and villains of eve can pull off , however.

a few years back, there was a small but feared group called The Guiding Hand Social Corp, and the leader, Istavaan Shogettsu (sp?). Istavaan moved to the Ubiquita Seraph corporation, and slowly rose through their ranks to become a director with immense responsibilities. he persuaded the CEO to perform a show of force through a system, in aimmensely valuable Navy Issue Apocalypse battleship, the sort of ship most pilots could only dream of, while he flew alongside, in an even more powerful, almost unique Imperial Apocalypse - an almost unique ship.

the show of force was a trap. unbenownst to the CEO of Ubiquita Seraph, GHSC had a mercenary commission to destroy the corporation, and this they had spent almost a year building toward. At one word from Istvaan, a trap was sprung, Istavaan locking, scrambling, and opening fire on the CEO as a select kill team warped to his aid. Meanwhile, at a single word, a dozen covert operatives emptied the corporation's assets - billions of ISK of assets, from unique blueprints, to ships and modules. months, years of effort, sabotaged in one fell swoop. The Navy Apocalypse collapsed under the weight of fire, and the CEO's escape pod destroyed.

The incident caused ripples through EVE - GHSC was villified and lauded in equal measure, the truth of the mercenary contract was discovered, wars were declades, and alliances rose and fell in the wake of the massive betrayal.

from the major players, to the smallest minions. All driven by players, economical and military warfare that shaped the face of the galaxy. and all in a day's gameplay in Eve.

Compare the scale, the audacity of such an event, with being one in the line of "heroes" to defeat a computer-created monster, to get the praise of a single NPC.

Yeah, I once joined that corporation (long after what had happened to it), they are still pretty damn angry about it - it totally crippled them.

They've regained it all now though, and they also claim to have gotten suitable vengeance against those who commited the crime.

Something like this is almost impossible to achieve in any other game, IMO.
