ThetaOrionis01
Did you get a mercantile skill increase as a quest reward, by any chance? It sounds as though you may have run into a bug...
sammysosa
ive noticed that selling to argonians will fix the mercantile problem
odark
Mercantile does go up fast, if you approach it like a trader would (which is what the skill is for.) Example,Buy stuff cheaper at X sell for more at Y. Your mercantile will rocket if you use this approach. Just buying and selling a lot of stuff isn't going to make your character's skill go up. I find I have moral issues with using mods that increase skill gain ratios, mostly because the person who made them is under the impression they are too slow because it doesn't fit their game style. For example the modder being a warrior class type gets annoyed because they can't get their personality up. Really if you approach it from an RP stand point, why would a warrior have a lot of personality? Really it makes sense. I think the system is working very much as they intended. Ok, maybe with the exception of marksman, they always seem to set that one too low.
goseki
It happened to me too. It also happens if you watch the blades fighting in the yard. Load a previous game or train the skill to the next rank (apprentice expert master etc), or get a mod to help. Personnally I would go to loading. awwww! but the doctor is at level 6 now! hours of level grind to gone to waste :( oh well i was only going to level 8 like that and not pay attention after that... to loveme4, if you see npcs paracticing combat together you can gain a heathy skill increase by standing still and watching them for about a minute. doesn't seem like such a good idea now though... this is one bug id like to see get squished
Switch
This bug is known as the modskill glitch... usually happens after receiving points from quests, such as the Hackdirt quest (+5 Mercantile). The Mercantile one happened to me, and it just eventually wore off. I think it's because I had 5 skill gains since the skill was modded, so the red bar essentially caught up with the skill gain, I think. As people say just pay a trainer to increase the skill and that should fix things. Or you can just keep using the skill and eventually it'll start raising again. Ok, maybe with the exception of marksman, they always seem to set that one too low.I'm only selling what I don't need (usually I get the items off of people i kill or find in caves) thus making my markup infinite percent increase :) I buy and sell as high as my haggle bar will go meaning that I can't possibly make X or Y any better (which i would think the best price possible is exactly what a trader would do). Also I would never mod to fix this....if it were a bug I would get a patch but if this is the way its intended to work then it's something I will deal with, however wrong I think it is. (RP would tell me if your characters intellect is high enough and you go to enough stores and see prices and sell similar stuff at certain prices you would start to learn true value and demand true value, which is mercantile IMO) Edit: Switch, do you mean the hackdirt "missing daughter" quest because i don't remember getting any bonus for it, but it is on my completed quest list. Malchik
I have the same problem with the illusion skill which has stopped completely even though I regularly grab Weyland stones using telekinesis. I'll try training next time I level up. I have had no problem in other skills even when awarded a skill increase for completing a quest (the Orc arena champion and the argonian trader in Chorrol being two). I'd forgotten that until you mentioned the boost. As a matter of fact she was the trainer I used to get up to Apprentice level.
Switch
Edit: Switch, do you mean the hackdirt "missing daughter" quest because i don't remember getting any bonus for it, but it is on my completed quest list.Yeah I do. ^^ I didn't remember it either at first, but I think you do get a boost from that quest. There is a mod that fixes this, called the "Stuck Skill Fix", but I'm not sure where you find it. Or whether it works. I still use it regardless in the hope it will help. ^^ Simplest thing is probably if I just attach it to my post. IIRC, it won't fix a skill if it's already been affected by the bug, but it's supposed to prevent any further problems from occuring.
