Modders and "it's for private use only"

You could always download Blender and Gimp and Nifskope, learn to use them, and attempt to recreate what you've seen.

Haha, I've been thinking about that many times but I don't have the energy to learn it from scratch just to mess around in a game that is soon to be obsolete so we'll see about that. I suppose I'm not in a position to be picky then right? Well, I'm grateful to those people who actually share and I can understand why some people keep their stuff private after reading the comments here but I would release my own work if it was good enough, just for the publicity it would give. Actually I have already released some textures and it wasn't a problem until tessnexus was redesigned. ^^

Yea i doubt it will be obsolete for a good while with all the new breakthroughs lately it continues to evolve and until that evolution is done it will be around.

Best reply ever. And indeed, I've done that myself many times. Yes, I have some mods that are private, that are just for me and a few friends. Usually they are something I doubt anyone would want, others are things I made purely for myself and have no permissions for, and likely to never be given them due to that author's own reasons.

Learning the programs that mods are made with can solve that problem nicely, and learning something new is never a bad thing.

I don't know maybe I'm out of line, but I think this thread is fairly absurd...

This isn't an MMO, the creator cannot run around a world with thousands of players showing his creation in that manner. With this game, the only way you can show your work is with a SS.

I have no room to speak about sharing mods for the fact that I am just learning. Regardless, I would never have the nerve to call someone out for not wanting to share their hard work...

I can see where the topic creator is coming from, I have seen a few things I wouldn't mind being able to play. But I also agree that modders have the right to share or not. BUT if you post a really cool screenshot and tell people they can't have it, expect them to ask anyway. If that bothers you, then don't post the screenshot.

And its not entirely realistic for everyone to learn how to recreate something they see in a screenshot, it takes skills that some people(myself included) simply don't possess.

I have to say the op makes an excellent point. To me it comes off as quite bad form to post screenshots, etc of something you have no intent on sharing. Your just pouring salt in people's eyes. Secondly, the whole "the reason people don't share stuff is they post pics on stuff then get inundated with emails asking for the stuff in the pic". Well DUH! Of course people are going to ask for stuff if you post pictures left and right on something! Its not rocket science. You don't want people asking for stuff you don't want to share? DON'T POST THE PICTURES! People can't ask for stuff they don't know exists.

My second peeve with the whole "private mod" thing that I'm surprised no one else has touched upon has to do with the modding requests. Ive had, and seen, more than a few requests outright denied because "someone already made it and its a private mod" (The modders of TESEyecandy.uk are outright notorious for this). So? Your point? I don't see nearly a quarter of those people complaining about the five to six different versions of the Assassin's Creed armor on this site, or the multiple variants of other popular armors here and elsewhere. This goes back to etiquette: if your not goint to post something constructive in relation to an individuals request, dont pull a stunt like that because it just makes you look like a lazy bum. No ones forcing you to download peoples mods so if you don't like it, or like someones idea, then keep it to yourself.

This is just my personal opinion, but I wish a moderator would close this topic. It doesn't seem to serve much purpose other than to gripe about what's shared and what's not and what people should do versus what they should not do. One cannot control another's actions and it's just better to accept that fact than to get upset about it.

In my own experience I shared a creation I was proud of, and have sorely regretted it after seeing what people have done with it. To get over the bitter feelings I have made a new version, which I won't share. Maybe it is a little bit for revenge, but it is satisfying to know that the people who turned my art into pornography will never get their paws on this new creation.

As for the assertions that the screenshots are "bad form" and "pouring salt in people's eyes," I think most people know that they can't have everything life. That's just how it is.

First, this thread is ridiculous and offending, and yet laughable at the same time. Just because someone else worked hard on a mod and decides not to share doesn't give you the rights to it. Where the heck does that come off of anyways? As someone similarily stated, do you ask the guy who just drove up in a shiny brand new corvette if you can have it?

Second, also stated before, take up modding for yourself. Learn the tools and use them.

Thirdly, to those who whine about how they can't do it, I say BS. If you can learn to type and reply in a forum, then you can just as easily learn the modding tools available. There are a plethora of tutorials with step by step instructions on how to mod available both with modelling programs and scripting. When someone states that they can't do it, I call laziness. If you genuinely tried and still are having difficulties, you can always ask for help from either here or the bethsoft forums.
