I am confused: what exactly are American ideals?

The only remarkable American ideal I'm aware of follows from the proud answer given to me by a good friend on why he has bought a Motorola Handy and no other:

"I have to support my country!"

Your friend is wise it appears...

....... *Looks again at post*

......

Wait... Whose country?

When people begins to talk about genetics as a factor of success... things tends to degenerate badly...

I can see where a few references to the Genocides of WW2 can come as an excellent way to counter genetics. WW2 makes the argument of who's got better genetics so..... evil.

It's not against genetics, just the known danger from people that believe they own the only deserving pool and appears under my eyes like the blindest of the blinds...

I'd like to believe such thoughts belongs to the past, but it's not so. Anyway I'm quiting this thread now.

I think that if you are born in a country where you are a allowed to love who you want to, believe what works for you, not referring to just the general socially acceptable norm, but legally, then you are lucky.

The question I always wonder about is, if you are not that lucky, how would you know of different possibilities? So one american ideal I would think, is then is allowing possibilities to exist, even if they never become real.

Well, I'm an American (redneck sub-species) and the only ideal I have is "you can take my gunz from my cold, dead fingers!"

hehehe.

But really, if anything can be generalized as a nation, it is the constitution which binds the states together like glue. Without that, we are truly different countries....and if the federal government wants to break that down, well, you can expect many states to declare their independence...Texas being one of the 1st. ;)

Thee hee, my cousin is married to a Texan, and I'm tempted to ask if you know him! I guess the ideals of a constition gives something to strive for, and the freedom to do so, however trampled it may seem late on a thursday night.

Don`t forget wich old constitution got them there in the first place.

No one here does  some of the politicians now seems as weird and scary as the old ones, absolute power and all that.

I think that South Africans who stay in South Africa are very brave. I have known many in my travels; they were all expats...

Takes a bit of common sense, But I couldn't say if thats different to anywhere else.
