ub3rman123
Well, judging by the over 20,000 mods available for Oblivion.. I think the general consensus is yes. Mods are a very good thing for the game. You can add in almost any sort of new content for the game. Weapons, armors, dungeons, questlines, guilds, scripts, creature and gameplay overhauls, music replacers, title screens, modder's resources, several new Kvatches, patches, utilities, mod lists, companions, player homes, combat overhauls, body replacers, hair mods, realism changes, magic additions, save games, UI overhauls, etc.
JimboUK
I don't think I'd have clocked up more than 20 hours on Oblivion if it wasn't for mods, I wouldn't have played FO3 for as long as I did either. Good mods can really transform a game.

DarkNinja13
I have always looked at a mod as someone saying "You know what? This game is good, but it would be so much better if it had _____. So I think I'll add ______ to the game.". Mods like "Crowded Cities" (Oblivion) add more realistic feeling to cities and make them more the bustling places they should be.Mods like "GNR-More Where That Came From" (Fallout 3) are believable because there has to be more than 20 songs that survive a nuclear war.Mods that add realism are always good. Heck, just about any mod can make the game better, even in small ways. Mods never make a game - but the often make a game better.
Vindekarr
Mods are well worth it. Just be careful what you pick though, this is community generated content and like any comcon it can be either a masterpeice or 4chan rubbish. Typicaly, if you're looking for something specific, do a search on nexus, and have a look at all your options, dont just grab the first DL that comes into view. Some mods, like castle glenvar, and oscuro's oblinion overhaul for oblivon are two examples of really sublime mods. They match the quality of the original game and give a huge benefit to the fun of the game. Others are at times badly made, stupid, grotesque or simply wrong. While a lot of modders like oscuro, owasephirot, saidenstorm, beni, and many others are extremely capable, adding hugely good new content like much improved hand made animations, new content, technical improvements, and other things, they are counterbalanced by teeming legions of people who seemingly make their mods while drunk. As a large portion are simply increasingly stupid and laughable mods to add larger and larger breasts, or a vanilla weapon with an instakill damage spell/stats. For the most part they're well worth it. oscuro's oblivion overhaul for example adds many many excellent new quests, hordes of new items, huge technological enhancements, better combat balance, and a sizeable increase in dificulty to oblivion. All done with very very few bugs, most of them oblivion's, and extremely high quality standards at times exceeding the base game. So yes, I'd say well worth it. just make sure you have the latest patch, and install them correctly. And one last thing, make a new character whenever you install a large mod. OOO and other overhauls only work on new characters, trust me, I know what can go wrong when you jury rig...
ub3rman123
Well, at least from what I've seen, Sturgeon's Law doesn't apply quite as heavily to modding as you'd expect. It's more of a half-and-half thing than 90%.
