EddieBreaks10
Oblivion is not a good game for a 12 year old. Look for something a little more age appropriate. I know it is rated for 14 year olds, but even most of them are not mature enough yet. My own experience with a 12 year old trying to play it is they will get frustrated quickly when it doesn't work like Mario. They just don't understand the concept that you actually have to learn how to play it properly, and practice fighting techniques to win consistently. I had one out of 3 grandchildren (Ages 10 to 13) actually finish the tutorial dungeon before quitting and going back to a more age appropriate game. The one that did finish (13) went on a crab killing rampage and was killed by crabs several times. At lowest difficulty I think the crabs actually had an advantage on him. He then ran into the bandits at Vilviren and got slaughtered. He was frustrated because they actually seemed to team up to beat him. (there were 2 of them and they split up) He then declared it wasn't fair and quit. His concept of tactics is to charge straight in and swing whatever weapon he has in hand no matter what the odds He was killed by the blades when he tried to fight them bare handed in the cell, again when he got in the way during a fight with the assassins, by the assassins when he tried to fight them, by the rats several times, by the goblins, by the logs rolling down on him, by the goblin shaman - and I kept lowering the difficulty until it was as low as it would go but he still managed to get killed by a mud crab, then drowned. And he kept forgetting to save so had to go back a lot. I then gave him one of my saves with good armor & weapons located him in the IC market - and he promptly attacked a civilian. Then got mad when he was trashed by the guards. I sent him back to Mario Land. I find your post offensive....Youre basically saying that 12 year olds are too stupid to play rated "M" games. I have a 10 year old cousin that has Oblivion, and has passed the game using stealth, warrior, and mage characters. All 6 of his characters are level 30 and above. The kid is better than me at Oblivion, and plays it on the Xbox 360, no mods, no cheating. He also plays Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Borderlands, Modern Warfare 2, Gears of War, and he has managed to get by every single one of those games. Although I am not trying to insult you, I am simply stating that your post may be offensive to younger kids.
Ethre
I'm not up on current hardware, but I do know that Nvidia was having a spate of issues ~1.5 years ago. Don't know if they are still continuing. Just my opinion, but I would guess it can't hurt to let him try Oblivion. Worse thing that happens: he doesn't like it. However, you may want to consider helping him out by tweaking the video settings. The Advanced video settings for Oblivion may be beyond him (or maybe not), but can give a much better visual/performance balance than the stock. -E

Ghogiel
there is super hard, then there is nintendo hard. dude. I grew up in the NES era. if i can complete some of those games at 8-12yrs old, my gaming ability was probably peaking at 12! i wish i had oblivion then, i would have had no problem. to complete some of those games, you had to literally memorize the levels or whatever the game was about. 1 hit kills you etc. now if i thought that was unfair and quit... then nothing. evilneko
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?cpu=GeForce+6150 Okay. Not a chance in hell that thing would run it. Wow, it sucks worse than the gpu in the compaq laptop I sold to my friend. Way worse. In fact, that GPU is at the top of that list.
bben46
@EddieBreaks10 Nowhere in my post did I use any word implying stupid. I was saying that most 12 year old and even 14 year old children are not mature enough to play such games yet. And used an example from my own experience to illustrate it. There is a large diference between stupid and immature - although immature people (not limited to children or age) will do stupid things - because they don't know any better yet. "If we stop saying things because we are afraid what we say will be offensive to someone, then no one will say anything because anything can be offensive to someone." Not an exact quote, and I really don't remember who said it. BTW Stupid is one of my 8 year old grandson's favorite words. Anything he disagrees with or doesn't like is 'stupid'. EddieBreaks10
Alright, alright. I guess I misunderstood your point. But I still think that not all 12 year olds are the same. Some mature faster than others. Sorry if I bothered you.
