evilneko
Fallout New Vegas will only require Steam once during install. After that, you will likely be able to launch it even if Steam is not running, much like with the Steam version of Fallout 3.

LHammonds
I also like to make backups of my originals and only use the backups...well, "like" is not really the correct word...more like "need" because of all the crumb / CD snatchers I have running around my home that can turn any CD into a toaster before you can say "don't touch that!" For Oblivion, a NoCD patch isn't even necessary. I used a program that created an ISO out of the CD and then I simply "mount" the ISO whenever I want to start up the game and it works perfectly fine. I wished more games worked as easy as that. LHammonds

LHammonds
funny story to see every moderator here admitting to use cracked exe and and fake isos.... :pirate:Yes, and every one of us can produce proof that we own the games in question. It is legal to make and use backups. It is illegal to share those backups or bypass paying for the games and downloading other people's backups. Big difference. Pushkatu
funny story to see every moderator here admitting to use cracked exe and and fake isos.... :pirate: LHammonds is one of the most famous pirates of all times. I'm telling you this becouse I learned everything I know from him, but we are land pirates. :pirate: Eye, eye captain! PS: There's a truck next week with some precious cargo(good code for the cargo huh? they'll never brake it) and I know you will be interested. Meet me at the SPOT.(again very well coded)

I belive you, that you own the games, but you say downloading other people's backups is illegal. Means, if you own the game, it is still illegal downloading a cracked exe/iso from another source or not? Because I have hard times to belive, that you create such stuff yourself. Dark0ne
Downloading other people's backups (either through torrent networks or newsgroups) directly promotes piracy. Torrents are Peer-to-Peer and rely on you uploading what you've downloaded to others. You can insure who you're uploading to is download it for legal reasons (i.e. for a backup) and ergo you are facilitating piracy. Newsgroups require you to pay to access them. It's rife with piracy. Making a backup ISO of your CDs/DVDs is extremely easy with the right, legal, software.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 don't even need to be cracked, so no downloading a cracked exe needed. ;) However, in answer to your question, at the very least distributing even just a cracked executable is copyright infringement. That executable contains code that is owned by the developer after all. It's what makes the game actually work. In some countries the cracking process itself is also illegal, eg under the DMCA in the US. I've actually seen software on store shelves that combines disc-imaging with virtual disc drives to make a one-stop copy shop for games, so clearly the mere act of imaging your Oblivion/Fallout/whatever disc isn't illegal. Pushkatu
What I find hard to understand is why people still use cracked versions of games such as Oblivion when they are so cheap these days. I can understand that once a game is released not everyone can afford it and some try to obtain illegal copies of it, but after 4 years when the price is barely a problem, that I can't understand. And some heroes are brave enough to come to places such as Nexus and ask for help, while clearly mentioning that they have a pirated game. There's also the joy when you get a original CD/DVD. It looks more beautiful, you know it's been made by those you respect(Bethesda) and you know it HAS to work, not to mention it looks great on your shelf. If TES V would be released tomorrow I could not afford the PC version of it, becouse I don't have a PC that could run it, but I'd do my best to at least buy an Xbox version of it, even I'm mostly a PC gamer. Let's say, for the sake of my good health that it won't be released to soon so that I could buy a PC version(mods are simply a must for such games). :) Cheers,Pushkatu!
