it's said that the viruses came trough the ad banners, so why are there ad banners ?

probably because of the money you get for them, that is actually stupid, you get money to be infected afterwords..

or is the nexus hosted on a free server where you get the banners with it, i thought this was a private server, so why the banners, call me stupid, but i am curious...i would throw them out quickly..

Because this site is very expensive to maintain. You have the dedicated file servers, the main servers for each Nexus, a server for the fourms, account storage, constant I/O traffic for the hosts, and the electric bill for it all.

ok, that's a good reason to want to make some extra money..

it's a shame though that it comes with a downside then..

but hey, i have a good clean backup for when my virusscanner fails..

still, i hate those virusguys..

and thanks to the guys that try to keep it clean !

People who make virus' are just pathetic individuals who can't make themselves as successful as the people and sites they try to infect.

They literally have nothing to gain from doing it so it really is sad.

And if they find it amusing then theyre obviously very twisted in the head.

Thank atom that the nexus was quick to react and I never saw any of the alerts =D

Great work guys, keep this family of sites perfect =]

Well yes, we know those things cost money.

HOWEVER, with the funds earned from such revenue, one would think any company (not excluding TN) would have PROPER VIRUS Screening software to weed out what is being uploaded to there servers.

MORE SO, banner adds that use highly sophisticated scripting codes, which virus software is designed to be used to do so.

I know IF I were running a website, every single item uploaded to my server would be being checked for viruses on a continual basis. THIS IS commonsense this day and age in the world of the NET.

My question would be more, what sort of LEGAL ACTION is being taken upon those who did this?

And don't tell us that's not so easy, they did have to pay real DOLLARS to advertise, so there would be traceable records back to there bank accounts, paypal, Etc..

So who all was responsible for the viruses/Trojans TN?

So any way, my other question still is up as well..., Posted above in this thread...

Thanks :-)

Everything being "uploaded" to the Nexus is put through virus scans.

Nothing on the physical Nexus servers was infected. It came from the ads that were funneled through the ad system.

And this is why, no matter how much I trust a site, I never accept any third-party links and keep my HOSTS file up-to-date with the latest ad servers, because the ad servers are NEVER to be trusted. Others run other forms of adblockers for just this reason. Ad-farming on the net has been dying for years because of these attacks.

For sites that rely on serving ads to survive, my only suggestion is: serve ads locally, not through some third party that you can't control. Yeah, it takes more work, but it's the only way more than half the site's visitors will ever see them. And they'll be more genuine and relative that way, and we'll be less likely to ignore them when we finally do see it.
