graymaybe
Lol, you both mad. Seriously, he wrote the obituary himself, he's an egotistical bastard. Still, I do think that killing him is ultimately a bad thing, and I like to think that eventually he might do some good, as he does have a lot of vision for the world. Mainly, though, he's just concerned about his own backyard. He's a businessman, and I don't think he has grand plans of expanding his power everywhere, he's just going to try and maximize profits. gsmanners
House destroys The Kings too, if you helped them understand what the NCR was really doing better. Does that sound like a "good" man? House uses his army to terrorize and to force people to his will out of sheer paranoia and despotic dictating. Preventing that is a good thing. Rossum
I prefer to side with Mr. House because the guy has an understanding of technology and longevity. So far I'm doing the House Always Wins quests (stuck on the one where I have to meet the Boomers due to their rockets and I didn't invest in lockpicking to try the tunnel). From what I understand, House wants to live forever more than any other motivation, his plan so far is to exist in his life-support system and because of that he's pretty much stuck in the Lucky 38. He did set up a defense system that protected much of the Vegas area but ran into problems due to buggy software. His resources aren't limitless and his presence is pretty limited due to being stuck on life support. He took over the Strip because the NCR was moving into the region and he couldn't hope to stand up against them with his current resources, if he hadn't taken over the local tribes then he would probably have just been like one of those one-scene enemies in Fallout 3 where you walk inside, destroy his robots, and loot the place (Doctor Braun was a mad scientist with a bunker and some robots but you could just walk in and ruin him). House just consolidated some power to keep himself protected and form a semblance of civilization that the NCR would negotiate with. As for his handling of the Hoover Dam battle... I don't know the details (having not played that far) but House admits that he doesn't hate the NCR and they are his best customers... its just that he doesn't want them taking over Vegas and potentially messing with his life support and stuff. The Brotherhood wouldn't be friends with him due to them wanting to claim all technology for themselves... House doesn't want anybody breaking into his sanctum and poking around at the machinery keeping him alive. My character is high intelligence and fairly pragmatic (I work with the Followers of the Apocolypse more than anyone else) I'd work with House just to keep some type of law and order running in the area and to get access to Houses technology. He looks like exactly the kind of guy who would want to set up robot factories and other businesses to boost production of stuff and I want to be by his side so that I can devote that towards the Followers and others who want to improve the lives of people in the area. In short, House is a genius with access and knowledge of incredible pre-war technology and science. He doesn't shy away from killing people (frankly nobody in this setting does) but his main interests lie in protecting and controlling the area in his immediate vicinity. He might not care much for the people living in the wasteland and Freeside... but that might be because he's been stuck in a tube in the basement of his casino for over two hundred years and hasn't got much opportunity to talk with people. He'll keep the area safe from raiders and the Legion and such while I work by his side and use his knowledge of science and industry to improve the place. Besides, if he goes completely insane then I can pull his plug later (preferably after I learn his knowledge of longevity and robotics tech). Doing the Yes Man quest sounds tempting but ultimately sounds stupid. House obviously has better plans for controlling the wasteland and dealing with the Legion (and to an extent the NCR). I'd hold off on toppling Mr. House until after he deals with the Legion (and again after I get his medical and robotics tech).

ProjectGSX
This thread is indicative of my main problem with the game: there is no clear cut "good guy" to back. The NCR screwed the Kahns, who seem like good people when you get to know them, but they spend the entire first half of the game trying to kill you for no discernible reason. The Brotherhood of Steel condemn technology while hoarding it for themselves and using it to the fullest. House is the closest thing to a good guy I could find, but he supports a sort of decadence that I could not get behind, not to mention he is egotistical, controlling, overbearing, and the reason you got shot in the first place. I had befriended the NCR because, although misguided in typical bureaucracy, they seem to mean well. But when I decided to go independent and screw Mr House, the NCR flipped out on me. What the heck? We have a great relationship, why cant we be allies? Stupid s*** if you ask me. I understand that in the real world, things arent cut and dry. But for me, I want to "win" the game. That requires coming out with a positive outcome, and there was just no way to do that in New Vegas. To each their own, I suppose.
magnanimousmudd
I think that there would be a workable truce that could be made with House by the NCR if they had competent diplomats. Or they could ask the Courier to relay a message of proposed peace to House. Makes no sense to me. They control the Electricity, and supplies outside of New Vegas. New Vegas receives the caps from gamblers, and then New Vegas has to buy resources to keep everything going (besides power because of the dam treaty thingamabob where House gets 5%). Sounds like they both need each other in certain ways and SOMETHING could have been worked out. Its the Dam that's important, let him keep Vegas, and move on knowing that if a force such as the Legion pushes that far again, that you will have support in House who will be there to defend his city, and in turn, the Dam, because it powers his city. Another thing that doesn't make sense, is the Yes Man option.Imo, you could easily take control of New Vegas, FOR the NCR. Why does it HAVE to be an independent option? =|I upgraded the robots, and THEN disconnected house, so the city had upgraded securitrons at least =P
Gapho
house isnt bad just has a long term vision. the whole game is an illusion no one is good and bad stuff are always goning to happen. house cant stop it if some one gets in his way. neither will the NCR, NCR is just blind if u ask me. ProjectGSX theres a mission called: "Dont Tread On The Bear" if you didnt recive it you must have a bug because it show up even if you help the NCR its come up with a mission involving house and your siding with the NCR n stuff
Draco856
Don't Tread on the Bear is the quest that tells you to STOP helping House/Yes Man. It only shows up if you've helped them out a bit. I was on my last Yes Man objective when it showed up for me.
