grannywils
Age is a state of mind. I believe there are a lot more of us old farts on the forums then you realize. What I don't understand is how you young whippersnappers have all this time to spend on gaming. Aren't you supposed to be in school or at work or out doing something productive, so that we retired folk can sit back on our laurels and eat bonbons and play on our computers :whistling: lol. Anyway, I'm a very young at heart 64 and loving every minute of being retired and finally having time to explore some of these games and these forums. I could only play intermittently when I was younger and working; so I'm just learning about modding, etc. and have only just started using the forums. I find them to be very interesting and helpful and in many cases intellectually stimulating.

TheReveller
I'm not judging and I'm totally objective, but I must say I was pretty surprised to see that much people who are 30+ playing games. Why ? Maybe because I lived on a farm in a very small village and I'm in the age where video games started to evolve. When I was young, older people were telling the gamers to go outside and I would even say it was bad to be a gamer playing more than two hours a day. At home, we had a typist and some dinosaur computer for the accounting until I was 12 because I needed a computer for my homeworks. We had a 800 MHz, 128 Mb RAM, 30 Gb HD computer. At the age of 16 I bought a computer (3 GHz, 1 Gb RAM, 160 Gb HD) and I just gave it to my mom now that I'm at the university I bought a laptop in 2008. Also, I never had any gaming console and I'm not even looking forward to having one. I always thought games were for young people and the next generation, but I see that now the technology surrounding us, we have no choice than following it. I mean, some of you are 60+ and better gamer than I while my step-father who's in the 50 only knows how to click the left button of the mouse on the screen. The first time I realised that some older people were also playing games, is when I was 18 when a member of my family who was 30 asked me if I wanted to go to a LAN party. I said "Eh, a LAN party ? What kind of party is that ? Liqueur-Alcohol-Nachos ?" He laughed and said "No, we are going to be about 16 people in separate teams playing Halo 2 on many televisions" So, I went there where all the people were about 27-34 with one in the 50 and my cousin who was 16. They said "Oh, the youngsters are going to kick our asses !" Well yes, my cousin was kicking most of their ass, but me, I was the worst, haha... And yes, young people should be at school and working ! In the past three years, I only played a hundred hours because of Dragon Age I bought in 2009 and it's my first time back on a forum since then. I was living with my ex-girlfriend and going to school, so the last thing I would have done would be playing a game, going on MSN or Facebook. Facebook, another stupid thing ! Well, it's fun to keep contact with friends, but otherwise, to me, the only use of Facebook is being voyeur watching everybody's photos... I look like I'm anti-technology, but I'm studying in a technological domain and I like to see the evolution of technology. And anyway, we have to follow technology... When I was flirting with girls and they told me "Text me !" and I was like "Ehh, text ? You mean sending you a text message ? Yes, I have a cellular, but it's always closed and I don't even know how to send a text message..." So this year I had to buy a new cellular with some text message package, bah... Also, I did a semester in a class were everybody were 2-3 years younger than me and they all had iPhone and iPod Touch and playing on it I was like "Woh, wow, what's that ?" Or I remember on a exam a teacher saying "Ok, so no calculator, no cellular, no Blackberry" and I asked the teacher what was a Blackberry. Now, living in Montréal, I'm a bit more aware of the new technologies, but still. There is so much fun to have outside, I would play games only when it's a really mad weather outside, all my friends are busy and I have no more money. What's better than the adrenaline of rafting, jumping in parachute, doing bungie, etc ? What's funnier than paintball, snowboarding / skiing, water skiing, etc ? Other fun activites : biking, climbing, doing camping, climbing a moutain, swimming, rollerblading, hiking and way more ! My dad retired when he was 48 and he never got bored since then and he doesn't play any video game. But as I said, I'm not judging, I know that video games are addictive and really fun. I must say, when I started to play Dragon Age, I finished the game with my character playing 70 hours in six weeks and then I bought the expansion and played 30 hours in three weeks, that's alot. But when I started to do snowboard last year, I took a week off and I went snowboarding everyday, eight hours a day. It's so much fun and snowboarding doesn't take a hundred hours to "finish the game", you always become better every year ! Oh, I forgot to answer the question : I'm 22.
