mikej13
Hi, All, hope this isn't a repost or anything. My issue is that my character has the Wild Wasteland trait and although I'm about 30 hours in, I have had ABSOLUTELY NO random encounters that I would consider wild, funny, or even interesting. In fact, in all the time I've been playing, I can only think of 2 non-combat random encounters (at Nipton, a man comes running who has won the lottery; somewhere else, a man says he was almost killed by his girlfriend for his Star bottlecaps). I'm not sure if these encounters fall under the Wild Wasteland trait, but if they do, I am thuroughly disappointed - because these were both somewhat quest-specific, I assume they were encounters everyone has had. Apart from these encounters, I haven't randomly stumbled upon anything but enemies. Has anyone else had this experience? If there ARE funny/wild momments, why am I not finding them? I've heard others write about a couple things here and there (Indiana Jones in a refrigerator, Holy Hand Grenade stuff), but haven't experienced any of these myself. I've been playing since Fallout 2, so I'm used to tons of eastereggs and lots of goofy stuff. There was a lot less of that in Fallout 3, but I still found WAY more weird stuff in that than I've found in Fallout:New Vegas. So, what's the deal? Has anyone else felt this way? Is there something I'm missing? As stupid as it may sound, is it possible that my game is malfunctioning or something? Generally speaking, the game is awesome, but I'm really missing the usual Fallout humor and easter eggs and weird random encounters. So far, Wild Wasteland has been anything but. Whether or not you agree, any of your comments would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!
Syncrosonix
i'm still wondering what this perk does. i'm on my first play through and chose it because i was curious as to what it could or will bring during my adventures. i've had the same encounters as you. i don't think they have anything to do with the wild west perk.
Fonger
perk does very little see fallout vault for complete information but it does make it possible to get the Alien Blaster, instead of an improved Gauss Rifle
Alixen
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Wild_Wasteland Your encounters so far are quest related. :)
Extacide
They make fun of real world references in the wasteland. You've probably come across a few of them but didn't know it came from the trait.
pob255
Unless I'm much mistaken you can spot when it kicks in by the icon that appeers yep in the wikiEvents that are modified/triggered by Wild Wasteland are indicated. Alien-esque music will play for a moment. A message saying "..." will appear, and its icon will be Vault Boy with spirals for eyes, identical to the Wild Wasteland icon. I had both "That Fridge Was a Death Trap!" and "Johnny Five-Aces" during the tutorial mission, after killing the gecko's but before getting the Xander root and brock flower, without venturing out into the wasteland proper. However they are fairly small effects/encounters and you could easily miss them or not get them.I never knew the body in the fridge was an Indiana Jones reference until I read that wiki Edited December 2, 2010 by pob255
DocSeanson
As far as I know there are only a few instances were the Wild Wasteland perk kicks in. Spolier Warning. Broc Flower Cave : Rodents of Unusual Size Horrowitz Farm : Alien Encounter Nipton : Bodies of Owen and Beru (Star Wars Refference) In the Devil's Thoat, there is a large nuke(which does not explode no matter how hard you try) so far those are the ones I have seen. Yukichigai
getting beat by grannies in freeside when you come out of the building where fisto isMonty Python is almost over-represented in the Wild Wasteland perk: this, Holy Hand Grenades, and "Romanes Eunt Domus". Unfortunately, that is literally just under a third of the TOTAL Wild Wasteland events in the game. This perk is my second-biggest complaint with the game; except for being able to get the Alien Blaster this perk is completely not worth taking. Oh look, a vague reference to a police procedural show, el oh el. Bleh. What's more, the game is riddled with TONS of other encounters or references which ought to be wild wasteland material, but aren't. Reading a company email that ends with "bring the rubber sheets and the elephant foot wastebasket and remind me what I've been missing" is somehow okay in the normal game, but a Fedora in a fridge isn't? That seems inconsistent. For this perk to be worthwhile it ought to have fully five times as many encounters. As it is it's just... sad.
x0diak
Ive enjoyed it so far, but some of the references have been a little too obscure for even me. Its funny anyways. Anyone find the Blind Deathclaw? I did.
