That's another vital point, especially true for elder scroll games!

You are not able to play mods "out of the box". You have to install them, change their order with BOSS. Eventually use TESEDIT to remove some open issues, make a bashed patch with wrye bash,

And if you use some of the greater mods, that change weapon and armor values, you have to use the Skyproc patchers with their newest patches for your armor and weaponmmods. Unless you prefer silly values. Or No armor value at all.

I installed Obliivion once from scratch. I worked straight for 3 days, to get all my mods properly working, including my own mods (never published)

Gabe isn't able to handle this with his automated workshop. Skyrim is maybe the WORST game to test this model with.

But if the players pay for mods, they will force Steam do do it properly. They are not mod-players any longer, they are customers.

An additional point is, that the mod community are competitors from now on. The strength of the mod community is teamwork. That is gone now.

Well, I guess we'll see mods appearing on torrent sites too. I am glad about that, because there is no way I'll pay for a mod. Also Bethesda just shot itself, their games won't last as long as they did without the free mod support.

Well, see you my peers.

That makes sense in the one-person-does-it-all-mods. Yes this whole thing is a bloody gray area... Now what about the issues with bigger mods that involve a lot of people and possibly content from those smaller mods? Copyright stuff and all that.

Yes it is a fact that many don't seem to care about the mods and modders, me included.
Yet isn't it also a fact that modders know that their work would be underappreciated by many, and that there are buttholes around the globe that would whine endlessly on their comments section?

Not expecting an answer from you to these, just throwing some thoughts here for no reason really.

Drive-by compliment incoming:
Apocalypse and Wintermyst are awesome. Sincere thanks for those.

Hey moderators and modders, do u ever thought of creating foundation system like Patreon, where content creators will put goal of $ for certain mod or mod update. I think this is more fairy system than that 75% greedy cut. Why should people pay valve/bethesda for things they didn't create?

Yet somehow it still managed to win dozens of Game-of-the-Year awards across multiple platforms, without a single mod.

Mods are cool, but they're not required.

That is so very wrong ....

Without mods, Skyrim is only another console port gone wrong. Remember the UI? The balancing?

Remember the nonexistant balancing of the leveled NPC lists in Oblivion?

No, without mods, elder scroll game are unenjoyable casual crap, where every single 25 level bandit runs around in glass armor.

Alone this raised two questions at once:

1. Why are there 25 level bandits?
2. Why did he not sell his armor and weapons, to live happy until the end of his life?

And why the hell is there a mission in oblivion, that forces you with level 2 to go into hell, and why did you survive this? Play it with Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul, tht will set minimum levels for all NPC and critters. You will get not very far, and you will understand after that traumatising experience, how utterly silly the quest idea of Bethesda was. ...

The vanilla version were playable, but they are not very fun to play. At least, the game isn't epic any longer. Edited by mkess

I honestly do not mind supporting or paying for some of my favorite mods. The problem is, putting things behind a pay wall before having a chance to test to see if we actually want to use them. I have had numerous mods that I thought I would enjoy but just were not what I was looking for. Am I going to be able to get a refund for things like that?

My other concern is that mod authors are going to Steam Workshop to do this, an obviously inferior medium for modding. I would be willing to pay mod authors for the hard work they put in, but not through Steam where I have so much less control over how my mods are installed or function. If I am going to pay, I want to be able to use a proper mod manager for the content.

The fact of it is, this has been a long time coming. For many modding is a passion, but everyone would like to earn money for the things they enjoy doing. We just need a better system here to support the quality modders. Steam gave it to them first, that is why you see so many rushing over to them. If a better system is given here, they will all come back.

Seriously, stop with the hate. We all would do the same thing in their positions. They might do the same thing in ours. We are all human. We just need to calm down and work out a reasonable solution that gets the quality content back here where it belongs and the modders the support they have deserved for a long time.
