ATI CCC (Catalyst Control Centre) Troubles Thread

Recommended Posts

This is a problem I've been having for almost a year now, and I might as well let others who have had problems with ATI's Cataylt Control Centre (that's Center" to my Yank fellas) post their problems on this thread. Anyone who has solutions for us poor souls are encouraged to post 'em up. Now, I will give a brief descritption of my problem and my system setup. Any and ALL diagnoses and soultions are welcome.

Now, to start off, I just installed a brand new ATI Radeon X1600 Pro (as of the writing of this post). My previous GPU was an ATI All-in-Wonder X800 XL, so I'm not sure what is wrong, but for some God-only-knows reason, my CCC won't start. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the runtime not being detected, even though it is running.

I checked it through the Task Manager and, low and behold, I see CLI.exe running (that should be the CCC runtime process methinks). Now, everytime I double-click the CCC icon on my desktop, the busy-in-background cursor shows for a second, then nothing happens.

This is my current setup (as of the writing of this post):

-Intel Pentium 4 2.60 GHz CPU with Hyper-Threading Technology (dual-core processor)

-1.0 GB of PC2700 DDR RAM (4 x 256 MB)

-ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512 MB DDR2 GPU (single AGP card)

-Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2)

-.NET Framework 2.0 (.NET 1.1 is required for CCC to function normally, so I don't see as this as a factor, but I'm a dumbsh*t when it comes to techie stuff like this, so I'm just naming this in case sumpthin is screwbally)

Anything else anybody needs to know about my setup can be posted hereinafter. I do appreciate ANY feedback, since I'm goin bonkers crazy out of my mind with this crapolla. Thnx.

On my old PC (ATI Radeon 9600 Pro) I needed the catalyst drivers to cure a graphical glitch which occured each time a weapon was drawn.

I didn't have any problems with the catalyst control centre as such, but installing the .NET framework and the catalyst drivers resulted in a new user being created on my system, and my firewall being nuked (I no longer had access to the firewall controls... ) :glare:

Once this mysterious new user was deleted and once I'd uninstalled the now useless firewall and installed a new one things seemed to be running fine.

Hmm... that's an interesting glitch. In an attempt to fix one problem, another, more serious problem occurs. I guess sh*t happens, eh :D ? Anyway, that's not what happened to me. I had installed .NET 2.0 WAY before I even bought any ATi card, and the only firewall me gots is Windows Security Centre. I NEVER had ANY problems with CCC up until version 5.8 or 5.9 (can't remember), that's when it ceased to even allow me to open it up.

...Actually, a thought just occured to me. That's about the time I had d/led and installed Visual C++ 2005 Express. And now that I come to think of it, I had only installed .NET 1.1 before I got my first ATi card (Radeon 9000), and when I installed VC++, it installed .NET 2.0 for me. I'm not sure if this might be the case, or if I'm just plain f**ked  .

Well, I guess this will probably be the last I'll post (for now) on this thread. I've finally accepted the fact that I'm just plain f'ed  . I'm using ATI Tray Tools instead. I would have prefered to use CCC, but ATT provides the exact same functions as CCC, so it's all good :) . But please, feel free to list any problems you've had with CCC. Hopefully, in the future, ATi (now a part of AMD) will realize that NOBODY really needs to use CCC in it's current state. .NET is a good platform to use to design your app, but ATI may have taken it in the wrong direction, and too far.

I just want to mention that for those of you that have no problems with CCC, a good place to tweak your ATi card is on TweakGuides.com. You'll find hundreds of tweak guides disigned to allow you to get the most out of your games and PC in general. Check it out, anyhoo.
