WizardOfAtlantis
This is a lot like comparing apples and oranges, I think, and therefore both rewarding and difficult. To oversimplify perhaps, I see Star Trek as very much the icon of classic Sci-Fi, where the emphasis is on a group of individuals that all have unique jobs and yet fit together as a team to make society a better place, together, because singly, they wouldn't be able to do it. While Star Wars does have superficial similarities to this, I feel the saga is much more a tale of epic fantasy set in space: there is a chosen one who, on the loss of his/her past, sets out in company of a warrior-wizard mentor and learns the ways of the force, in this case, so that he/she, with a little help from his/her friends, can pretty much single-handedly take out the Bad Guy and bring Peace to the galaxy/homeworld. I chose Star Wars, of course, as I have those ideas in the forefront of my individuation, even if I was exposed to Star Trek: TOS before the first film came out. In the end, I think they can both live together, as the best teams are made up of heroes themselves.
Maharg67
After I starting seeing Star Trek Enterprise as not really Star Trek at all, I began to enjoy it more for some of the merits it did have. As for the other Star Trek series, I consider in all cases that some episodes were better than others. As for Star Wars, the first three (Episodes Four to Six) were great but the prequels, not so much.
brokenergy
I was once a Wars fangirl but now I have switched to Trek. Trek is more intersting than Wars and dare I say more coherent than Wars. Bring on Trek
Trandoshan
Voyager is probably the last of the good Star Treks, and had a storyline that made it seem like each episode was connected because the journey had a sole purpose. Whereas you could not really place a definite long-term goal with the other Star-Treks. Enterprise was a LARGE step back from all of the other Star Treks... No pun intended. Yes, my username is Star-Wars related. Yes, I don't like my username as much as I used to. Edited January 23, 2011 by Trandoshan
WizardOfAtlantis
After I starting seeing Star Trek Enterprise as not really Star Trek at all, I began to enjoy it more for some of the merits it did have.I'd take it farther. I think that is a very important "right" we have in the modern world, where we can judge ourselves what is official or not based upon our own personal tastes. At times, I think writers simply drop the ball/story, and frag up in a way that is not only completely out of character but also out of "story", if you get my drift. Not only Star Trek is subject to this, but also works by single authors...Rowling comes to mind with Harry Potter quite quickly as an example of someone who at times suffers from literary brain farts, things to which we just have to say, "well, no, not in MY Harry Potter Universe did you just do that." ilDuderoni
Voted the Star Wars "prequels". No doubt that needs some elaborating:Its got to do more about deduction. Mind you, the reasons I sum up are ENTIRELY personal, and do not express any other opinion then that of my own and, on that matter, nor a serious opinion. Star Trek fought a losing battle to me with... the suits. Yes, its a cheap shot. But I'd feel ashamed to be seen in an outfit like that. Unless I got a fancy paycheck for it. Hence I can understand the actors doing so.I found the women twice as attractive in the Star Wars series. Again, shallow. But I wont pretend to be anyone else but myself. (and totally lovin' it)Trekkies...Its like comparing two evils. I have to compare the embarassing feeling to see a guy in a stormtrooper outfit. and a Star Trek outfit...I'd have to say that the Trooper outfit looks just that -tad- better. I'd not be seen in either though, I'm aspiring to have a Postal Dude look. I just need the smiley badge and the cross.Lightsabres...the weapon that, assuming you're the only one having it on the battlefield, gives you a rush of *I feel awesome*. Also, cutting people in half just plain rocks. Lightsabre or not. Those Jedi outfits look oriental in my opinion. Im a sucker for those.Hoods. Siths wear hoods. Hoods are bad*ss. Its plausible im the only one saying this.Picard or whomever sits in a chair in the middle of the room, Jedi jumps around with leaps the length of miles. Again, Im a sucker for the effects.I know I always wanted to zap my boss with an electricity bolt, right out of my fingers. On the Trek suits again... I just cant believe the coffeebeans feel comfortable in that outfit. Sorry, I should try letting go of that obsession...Both series are depicted as "Geek series" (beyond anyones will, even mine!), but Star Trek just feels this touch "Geekier". Again, personal opinion.(I think Im opening a can of evil reactions with this....*cowers*)If I've been given the right ammount of examples from both sides, I think the weapons look more awesome in Star Wars Again, this is a personal and not very serious list of reasons for me. If anyone's offended...I'm sorry I did so, but I think you're a touch obsessed then. Edited January 25, 2011 by RJ the Shadow
Nadimos
I like em both for obvious reasons. Does not mean i automaticly like everything about it tho. Anyway. I voted for DS9 and Sisko and Quark and Garak and all the other actors in it. The show had pretty strong characters goin for it and an interesting story-arc spanning over several seasons. For single actors or characters i would have to vote Han Solo tho. It is kinda complicated with me. @TrandoshanAre you not the new companion pet of the Jedi Counselar in Star Wars: The Old Republic?! Edited January 25, 2011 by Nadimos
WizardOfAtlantis
That's one helluva hilarious list http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/laugh.gif And very valid arguments that carry their own not-to-be-undervalued weight.
