Does your android have a lousy battery life?

LOL well, I hope the subject line piqued your curiosity enough to take a look at the thread :laugh:

 

So I'm a smartphone user by preference. And my prior experience has been mostly with windows mobile, and to a small degree, blackberry.

I know that the android phones are getting to be Very mainstream, and quite popular, due to the very wide diversity of apps that are available for them.

But I see a HECK of a lot of complaints about battery life on the phones, and the tablets, running Android. I know that my ex gf's phone couldnt hold a candle to my windows phone for battery life.

 

Please list the maker and model of the phone or device that you're referring to ;)

I have a nokia X6. On heavy use of things like internet and the occasional music, hooked up to my car's stereo, it can last for 5 days. Idle can be up to a week.

 

EDIT: not android though, its a symbian.

2 of my housemates have HTC Desire's. They like the functionality but the battery life is terrible. It's something to do with the multi-tasking and the way the HTC's don't allow you to turn off the apps you're running. You basically need to get an app to turn off your apps; which is a...special....way of doing things.

 

Really dislike Apple products but I will be waiting for the iPhone5 to come out. I don't think they're revolutionary or saviours like some, but I do like them and the battery life is average, rather than terrible :)

Running an HTC Wildfire on droid 2.1

 

Battery life with light use (as my alarm clock, couple of calls a day, short browsing session etc) and I can get 4 - 5 days out of it.

 

Sit and play with it constantly and though its not quite greedy as the Desire's you may as well plug the charger in before you start.

I have a Tyrell Corporation Nexus-6 and I find the four year lifespan a tad too short.

I gave up with my HTC Desire, the phone itself is excellent but the battery life was awful. I couldn't get through the day if I used it for anything other than phone calls, I put it in the drawer and bought a Blackberry 9870.

Commander- LOL yeah... I was gonna say there! I remember reading an article somewhere the nokia was going to give android a shot, but I dont remember seeing anything more about it. I havent ever done anything with one of the symbian phones, not e\very many carriers here carry their High end phones :(

 

Robin- Yeah, I know what you're saying. That's a double edged sword tho from some of the articles that I read. I'd seen several people report that having to add in the program manager ended up cutting down their battery span too :wacko:

I was thinking about the HTC G2, but what you'd talked about, and the fact that it only goes into scenic view if you slide open the keyboard, was something that made me reconsider.

Well... that and the fact that the keyboard on my htc touch pro I had a few years back DIED, so that made me have reservations as well.

 

For me, one of the biggest things that I don't like about ANY of the Apple mobile products is that they don't have a removable battery, or a sd card slot. The non removable battery is what does it for me tho. I mean, a batt that you can only recharge about 5500 times, and cant put a new one in?

(And yeah, my Ipod touch is starting to suffer because of that :( )

 

Marthos- Cool! Thanks for the input on that. Yeah, thats how my ex GF's Motorola Cliq is. About a day's worth of talk time, but if you go messing around on it, it drops pretty quick.

I really think it's got something to do with all the programs that run in the background, and the lack of a task manager. (Her's doesn't have one either, as far as I've been able to tell).

 

Lolita- sign me up! 4 years of battery life, I'll take it! (If Robin will give me a raise so I can afford it, that is :D )

 

Jim- Ahhhh, the blackberry bold. I've been considering one of those as well. Its the only BB that I've tried out so far that I like the keyboard on.

 

Myself right now, I'm on an outdated Samsung Omnia with winmobile pro 6.1. And aside from being touchscreen only, no keyboard, I like it. Tho I really do need something with an updated processor. Well, that and I switched from the VZW network to the t-mobile network.

I have a Black Berry Storm 2. It's battery life is terrible. Minimum use will get you about 1.5 days with it. If you start using GPS or anything like that, you've got hours.

 

Looking into getting a Droid Pro. Anyone have any input on them?

That should have read 9780. So far I've been impressed with it, the battery lasts days rather than hours and the updated OS and innards have made quite a difference to performance.

Touchscreen again, they do tend to eat the batteries. The Droid Pro doesn't have a great battery life either, other than that it's supposed to be good.
