theLeeHarvey Posted February 22, 2011 Share Posted February 22, 2011 I am wondering which are the most and least prevalent combat skills the masses of us gamers prefer. The question is what skill do you naturally prefer. Example, If you carry around a Machete and enjoy hacking Geckos into even tinier bits just as much as facing your doom and attacking a Deathclaw with a combat knife, your primary combat skill of choice is Melee weapons. I rely mainly on my Guns skill because I like to riddle a foe with lead from relatively safe distances. My Prediction for the outcome of this poll?1.Guns2.Energy Weapons (probably very closely)3.Melee Weapons 4.Explosives5.Unarmed I'm a bit unsure about the last two, neither is all that great practically and won't necessarily be attractive to the majority of players as a primary combat skill. asdfzxc Posted February 22, 2011 Share Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Energy weapons is only useful at a very high level, melee and unarmed are insanely risky and do poor damage. Explosives is kind of situational, and it's probably the most expensive, but it has its moments (grenade launchers in an open field, disarming certain traps, laying mines to break scripted events, and the Fatman). Guns is useful from the start, and it keeps on being useful into the higher levels. It's the most versatile skill (though Energy Weapons is getting better), the weapons are dirt cheap and found everywhere, and they're just as effective if not better than their energy weapon counterparts. Pottsieee Posted February 22, 2011 Share Posted February 22, 2011 In my opinion, Explosives is not really a 'must have skill' when it comes to general Combat. Sure it's fun, but why waste your time throwing sticks of dynamite and dropping fragmines when you could blow the enemies head off with a shotgun. They are the most prevailant, there are more mods for them...and im a gun guy! I always carry a long range rifle, close quarters full auto assault rifle, some kind of shotgun and possibly a decent handgun. I tried playing a melee fighter but i find it pretty well usless. theLeeHarvey Posted February 23, 2011 Author Share Posted February 23, 2011 Ok, so far it looks like Bethesda can just do away with the melee and unarmed skills for the next Fallout title, lol.I completely understand why they aren't as prevalent, I mean, I don't use them for the same reasons :laugh: I did expect to see the Laser Commanders out there make a bigger showing, but the poll is still new, we shall see what happens. Glowcat Posted February 23, 2011 Share Posted February 23, 2011 I like the feel and power of Guns, Melee, and Unarmed. Energy Weapons are also pretty good but not my style. Explosives WOULD be something I'd enjoy if they didn't blow (in the wrong way). Overall I'd say that Melee would be one of the most versatile weapon skills in the game due to giving access to non ammo-consuming close-range, throwing, and poison-possible weapons. However, without the Dead Money DLC you'll probably never have enough of the latter two. Melee/Unarmed also have some wicked perks that let you pummel a fully grown Deathclaw into paste. asdfzxc Posted February 23, 2011 Share Posted February 23, 2011 I actually kind of like the Explosives skill. 40mm grenades are extremely effective against masses of low-health enemies, and the Grenade Machine Gun is just plain fun. Then again, I use mods to artificially extend the range and damage of most of the grenade launchers, so my opinion may or may not be valid.
