The Witcher 2 Assassin of Kings

Recommended Posts

For me this was the most anticipated game of the year and now i find myself wishing i haven't bought the game. Only reason for this is combat system, which in my opinion is completely idiotic to say the least.

Everything else in the game is amazing, graphics, music, ambiance, characters. Side quests are well designed too, you can take your time, plenty of things to do once you are in a town, just go easy, set back and enjoy. Then you get attacked and everything above stated just doesn't matter anymore, at least to me. I just can't get used to this new combat system and i feel it is more suited for joy pad rather then a keyboard. All those jumping and rolling around like a monkey just doesn't seem right to me. I know some people hated to combat system in TW1 but i actually loved it. It was dynamic, exciting and fluent, kind of kept me on the edge while in combat, now i just can't wait till its over. It is even worse if i die (which happens a lot), then i loose the will to reload.

Combat was never a big deal for me in any rpg i played until now. Maybe it needs some getting used to, maybe after some time i will get the hang of it, but, i find myself so frustrated because of it, that i don't feel like playing the game.

While im out of the combat its all :turned:     but then during the combat its all     then comes death and :wallbash:

This is just me ranting btw, im not trying to start a discussion about the combat system or about the quality of the game, i just needed some place to vent.

I found the combat impossibly hard on Normal Difficulty and switched to Easy . On easy it's just a matter of click click click on the left mouse button - no tactics or fancy moves required. You can throw in a right mouse button press if you really want to be a bit stylish but it's not required. It's not ideal but it lets you get on with the game.

After 1 year of grinding I have finally passed level, 18! ^.^

Yerp, so it is right click.

Also, to any ATi users, i recommand the latest driver and if you have a decent ATi card, turn on Ultra but disable Ubersampling.

turning off Ubersampling whatever the hell it is does gave me about 30-40 more fps at ultra. whatever it does, its poorly optimization. im only at lvl6 game crashes quite a bit so ive learned to press f5 quite often.

Ubersampling is basically, loading the game scene more times, then blending this into one.

It's some kind of Super Mega Anti Aliasing. It's meant for the next generation of hardware, and should not be used now.

And the game didn't crash on my PC at all. And I'm at level 8. I guess that a new patch is already being made, and it's a matter of days until the problems get fixed.

This is pretty much how I feel, I stopped playing after eight attempts at a certain boss fight in chapter one. During that fight the unresponsive controls weren't the only issue, the camera was more interested in showing off the monster than it was helping the player and on top of that the damn thing inflicted one of its god awful QTEs on me. I don't mind difficult games but this is no fun at all. :(

Edit: Patch next week... http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/2011/05/19/the-first-witcher-2-patch-to-arrive-next-week/

Well i was like you indeed. I Changed the diff to Easy, Turned off the QTE option and i am good to go. Thing is with TW2 the combat is really realistic, it doesnt forgive. But on easy, it keeps the story going and you actually survive. You should use plenty of Block, Evade and Quen sign if you play on Normal. Once you get used to it, the combat isn't that bad.

Jim, would that be:

Since a few of you have gotten past the tutorial how the heck to you fire the ballista? I've reset it probably a dozen times (the cut scene showing Geralt winding it up) and nothing, even though I click the mouse. Now I have bad guys to fight which works out well as they drop orens but.......

What am I missing here

Never mind. I see LadyMilla has an answer farther back that I missed reading.

Can I ask what a QTE is?

You might want to ask Ginny, she had that problem. I cant possibly say, this bit when smooth for me :S If you still do not get past that bit, I offer you to start the game again, get over the ballista bit, and upload it here for everyone.

In the Game Options set Difficult QTEs off.

In the game you have to keep clicking quickly enough to fill up the gauge - I think setting off in the options makes this easier but you still have to do it.

If you succeed in winding it up you have to do the same again to aim it.

Then if I remember correctly you just have to click once to fire it.
