Cheaters cry the hypocrites!

Unless you play a game at its most difficult settings and do not save then you are, in your terms, a cheater!

However in my terms you can only cheat a person so if you are not playing against another person you are not cheating.

Playing the same game differently than someone else is to be expected because all of us play differently and like different things.

And as many others have asked, why are you in the cheating area (as you call it)? >:(

:P

Er, sorry, but who are you talking to? The point of this thread isn't terribly clear. A thread needs a topic people can discuss. Could you clarify please? Thanks. ^^

What exactly are you saying? Not a very clear post...

Some things, for instance using the console to kill an enemy, can reasonably be called cheating.

Others...to use as an example something I did:

I accidentally shot a Legion trooper's horse. So, I used the console to clear the 40 gold bounty, and when he ran up to me to arrest me, I gave him 280 gold as an 'apology'. Could be called cheating, could be called console-assisted roleplaying.

"I'm sorry about that. As a token of apology, have this gold."

EDIT: Switch beat me to it.

Sorry I wasn't very clear I guess I just thought I was.

I was just tired of seeing people making comments on the mods about cheater's and I felt we needed a better understanding of what and who cheaters are.

Rather than posting this as a reply to each one I thought this would be the best way of communicating.

Was I wrong?

I would suggest you edit (append the relevant questions) your first post to make what you're asking clear, and probably ask that the title be changed.

It would be interesting to see what various people consider cheating.

For instance, using the console to cause a quest to properly update is fine. Adding 10^12 gold, on the other hand, is out for all except mod testing. I currently have a plugin active that I'm using to test experimental spells, and for the duration of the testing, some of the spells are non-hostile and low-cost. If I routinely used them, that would be cheating. Occasional use might be, but I don't consider it so.

i sometimes use the console to give me gold if i get a B.S. bounty. For example, i was playing KotN and was doing the last quest when one of my companions stepped in front of me while i was swinging a weapon, it killed her and gave me a 1000 gold bounty, which was B.S., so i payed that off.

Also, if i'm in some ruins, and playing a non-thief character, i'll give myself some lockpicks because i need more than 20 if my security skill is only 5.

Well there's a solution for that particular problem: get the skeleton key, it's not hard, it's a quest, and it gives you a permanent +40 in security plus it's unbreakable...

As for using the console: we all encounter some bugs that prevent you from finishing, or advancing in, some quests...like the Ultimates Heist's buttons not working, some characters not recognizing the item they asked for in your inventory, particular spells not working, etc...

What other way then than to use the console?

There is only one thing I do that is cheating: I quick-save before picking Sigil stones, so I can get one that interest me...but I do that only because Oblivion planes are boring, and I don't want to beat the same plane a dozen time to get a cool Sigil Stone. If Oblivion planes where not the crap they are, I wouldn't do that.

Plus some Sigil stone really s**k:I mean I've not beaten 5 Dremora Valkynaz, plus half a dozen Strom Atronach and Spiders and Xivilai to get a Sigil stone that does...Night-Eye or Water breathing or Water walking on self!I deserve something better for my pain.

Another thing that should be asked: is it cheating to use exploits, or to leverage AI glitches? For instance, what if someone hops onto a chandelier, preventing NPCs from closing to sword range? Could be considered the reward of a high Acrobatics skill, but as a chandelier shouldn't be able to support someone standing on it, it's certainly cheap.

As for exploits: there's one where serving a long sentence can reduce your skills. This can be used to get to levels normally not reachable. I'm inclined to say that if someone abuses this, it's their game...but if such a character were posted in a "Best Legitimate Characters" thread, that, in my opinion, would be cheating.
