For the love of all that is good, please stop with donation badgering.

Look, I get it, after the whole Valve / Bethesda BS with paid mods, you want to get as much support as possible, but you have crossed the line a thousand times over.

I don't know what the hell kind of income y'all are making at Nexus, but me personally, I ain't making 6 figures a year. I'm making less than 25,00 a year. I can't afford to donate to every god damn mod I download, and it gets real tedious when any time I want to endorse or download one, you are jumping up my ass about it begging me to throw money I don't have at these authors.

I get these guys do a ton of work for free, and they deserve whatever donations people send there way, but god damn what you are doing is only marginally better than valve. If people have money, they will donate. Just because you harass your user base doesn't mean we are going to suddenly give up money we can't afford to.

Further more, it still bugs us to donate on mods we have already donated to. A while back, I did a donation to the Long War team over at XCOM, and guess what? Every time I download and update, there's the harassment, spamming me to send yet even more money.

Seriously Nexus, draw it back a good ten notches.

You do realize that Nexus has allowed modders to decide how often and where they'd like to request donations, each file is up to the modder's discretion whether or not they want a donation window to pop up on download or not. If you're seeing a lot of them, that's not really Nexus' fault.

It's not like any of them are actually demanding money, you're still free to click through and download the mod without putting up a penny of your 25k. So what you're really complaining about is the extra 'annoyance' of a single click?

I've never seen this or encountered it personally. Do you have links to posts where uploaders are soliciting donations or implying they should be monetarily compensated? If that is happening I would report it. It might not be against any set rule, nonetheless it uncouth.

It might not be against any set rule, nonetheless it uncouth.

From the terms of service:

Donations

In March of 2012 a donations system was added to Nexus Mods that allows users to specify a Pay Pal address to accept voluntary donations through. Included in this system are two locations where users can donate to your account from; your profile and your mod pages.

Donations are classed as completely voluntary monetary transactions that yield no gain for the donator. That means that donations should only ever be offered as a way of thanking other users and never in exchange for services, support or perks on the site or with files. Users are not allowed in any way, shape, or form to offer their files, services or support to other users in exchange for donations on the Nexus. If people are found in breach of this then you can expect to be banned.

We have a 100% no solicitation rule in regards to donations. This means that you cannot request users donate to you anywhere on the site including on your profile, in your file or image descriptions, in your file readme, via images, forum comments or private messages other than by selecting from the already existing donation options in your preferences area on Nexus sites. If you are caught asking for donations anywhere on the site you are likely to receive a warning or an outright ban depending on the severity of the breach of rules.

You should also keep in mind that the donations system has existed for years, and until the paid mods thing happened, it wasn't very prominently displayed and barely anyone ever actually did so. That the donation rates have gone up since the more prominent display of the feature was enabled should tell you something. Especially when a lot of folks have commented elsewhere that they had no idea it was even possible because the system never told them so.

So if Nexus were to "draw it back a good ten notches" we'd be right back where we were before. Nobody would know the system existed and those donations people claim would happen anyway would dry up and go away.

It's just a fact of life that things like this HAVE to be put in front of people before they'll acknowledge their existence.

I'm one of those people who never noticed the donate button. I could only tell you what the first two green buttons read if asked. I'm glad you have made the donate button more prominent and while I do not have a six figure salary or even a five figure one come to that, I have made a couple of donations for mods I use regularly. Some mods I have downloaded have not yet been endorsed or donated to simply because I am gathering them as possible inclusions for my next play through. Currently only have 25 active Nexus mods of which three will not go into the next game.
