Kudos System Live

The kudos system is now live in the new user profiles. Here's the blurb:

 

The kudos system at Gaming Source is a way of showing other members you respect them or appreciate their work. By giving a user kudos you give them one kudos point which adds up with the kudos others have given this user to give their total kudos points on their profile. Obviously the more kudos points a member has the more they are respected within the community.

 

To give a user kudos you need to go to their GS profile (http://members.gamingsource.net/profile/index.php?name=USERNAME OF USER) and click the "Give Kudos" link. I'll look into ways of giving a user kudos from the forums sometime soon.

 

At the moment you cannot see who has given you kudos. The database logs who gives kudos to who but I haven't provided a way of seeing it, not sure if I will; could promote a "I'll give you kudos if you give me kudos" ethic. Who knows.

 

To test the system I recommend you go to this "test profile" and give the user kudos ;)

EDIT: I would suggest a "Find Member" field somewhere on the left sidebar. Typing a member's name in the URL works perfectly well, but feels a bit odd.

You won't have seen that site before since you're an old member. All new members need to go through that site in order to register for these forums and the Source Sites. It's the member hub of Gaming Source :)

 

A minimum post count is a possibility; I'll be monitoring its use over the coming weeks to see how it pans out.

 

As for a search; people will mostly be accessing profiles through the file database on Source sites; clicking on an uploader now takes you to that page, for example. Same when you click on a member's name in the file comments.

Why not have people start off with no ability to give kudos, then have the amount of kudos they can give rise exponentially with the kudos they receive?

One place that I wish I could give kudos is when you click on their name that appears whenever they make a post. I view the members screen this way but I can't find a way to give them kudos from there.

Works fine, good idea.

 

Would be nice to have the number of Kudos appear somewhere under the rank, either displayed as a bar wich fills the more kudos you have, or just as plain text.

 

Wicked sense of humor there, with that "test" user ;D .

 

Just as a side note, that white background makes the site look completly different from what we have here on the forums.

 

Eagerly awaiting this new and fun system to be integrated in the forum's profiles.

EDIT: It also seems that I can't find my profile there unless I type my user name. *censored*. Could you make it so the display name is used instead?

 

This is a problem where the search user feature Abramul mentioned would be of a great utility, as I have to try and guess a couple user names to kudos people.

Just to reitterate this isn't just for the forums; it's for all members. If someone makes a good mod click through to their profile and give them kudos...etc.
