Vagrant0
Not like threads discussing the LBGT issues are known for their even-tempered, rational discourse. :DMaybe not, but I always accept the attempts to keep them even tempered and rational when possible. The fact of the matter is that these issues, regardless of original intent for bringing up the topic, are issues that matter to people. These are issues that people feel strongly about and often need to have a place to discuss or express those feelings, pro or con. Even though the OP question falls under similar lines of "Why can't I play as a female infantry soldier in this quasi realistic WWII game?", it is nonetheless a valid question, and a question which can only occur because the world in which the game takes place is different from our own. Lisnpuppy
I still ask, as game mechanics go what the OP would expect. I'm asking a legit question here. Would dialogue be enough? The NPC stating whom they are attached? Having a marriage option for the same sex (which is in Skyrim.) I mean what would differentiate them from all the other NPCs. Would the options a developer add for this upset the very community to whom they are trying to reach? I'm not saying anything good or bad of the OPs request/question. I actually want to know what they would want in the game. You can say I want this community represented but HOW exactly. What would be his expectations for in the game? WursWaldo
Or blunder...After my intial post I started thinking this was just a thread drive-by to draw attention to a cause and create controversy where there is none. Or it could be the internet phenomenon of someone drunk just posting a question because it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Or it could be the internet phenomenon of someone drunk just posting a question because it seemed like a good idea at the time. :tongue:My guess on the matter is more along the lines of someone who wanted to start a line of discussion about a given topic, but who didn't want to out themselves or deal with some of the related flak that comes with posing a question along these lines. In which case it is understandable why it would be a 1 post from an account that was just made, and probably why they won't be able to respond (out of fear for their main account being banned for multiple accounts). It is unfortunately how things like this often happen due to existing social stigmas, or the tendency for people to go out of their way to lash out at someone else because they have different beliefs, interests, or values. As such, I'm half tempted to change the title of the thread to something more generic to see if a discussion on LBGT representation in games has anything more to be said. Aurielius
Being a pragmatist my question is simple ...what dialogue lines would suit the OP's premise? Since marriage is not confined to heterosexual unions that leaves NPC animations and dialogues being the only other avenue to express specific sexual preference. The game is endlessly mod-able, so if your cup of tea is LBGT then I suggest that the OP has a project for the cold winter months. Make the game to what your version of acceptable fantasy reality is, that's the whole reason for the CK.
PunkDisorder
My thoughts are, think of the time period. Think of the setting. This is a time period about the same time as our medieval days, where one of the biggest things in society was to leave a family legacy and to populate the kingdom. Homosexual relationships don't exactly produce children.

Homosexual relationships don't exactly produce children. No, but they almost certainly did exist. Although two people of the same sex could not marry, and faced social risks, in certain places where there were more freedoms, they were able to enter into business and property arrangements as partners. Among the trades and artists this was very common as establishing a new workshop as a singular craftsman had significantly more risk than joining into a partnership with peers... With whom you have spent many years together, and probably shared a bed together. Passing a workshop and related properties down to former apprentices instead of blood relatives was a perfectly acceptable practice. As certain trades were under very tight bonds of secrecy due to being a major part of a country's trade income, with movement of craftsmen severely restricted (under penalty of death or worse), it wasn't like those craftsmen could meet women or start a family, or even visit a brothel for that matter. As these groups already existed outside normal society, any risks were minimal.
MotoSxorpio
I believe the OP was getting at the whole matter of representation. Which has been a thing that has been happening in many games lately. Personally I find it silly that people are looking for a token LGBT character in their games, or why the sexuality of game characters even matters when they aren't engaging in anything sexual. But people want to be represented, their lifestyle validated, have positive or neutral characters they can associate with, and so on. And it isn't good enough that there are mods out there... They want it to be cannon and perfectly acceptable in those fantasy worlds. This represents well enough for me to quote. And it shouldn't really matter, its just a frikkin game. When all our games have to be PC (not player character or personal computer), then we've truly become a segregated society. Skyrim is about hateful people. No one likes anyone else. The sole purpose being that gives the player freedom of movement. They barely got the game to run for us, and now there's slander to add because the whole game is supposed to be that way...racially disrupted. Factions. I don't get it when folks want to turn a game into some political statement...when the game was just for everyone to do as they pleased for a few hours a night. Pack the hatred away, pack off your agendas. The thalmor don't care, stormcloaks just want their s*** back. The Empire always wants power. ugh...ITS JUST A FLIPPIN GAME. Know what I mean, Verne?
