Boombro
You kind of chaotic good though. You exaggerate good deeds and evil doings a bit, or you really bad at wording. I mean, bandits are hostile npcs. Anyways, in timeline of Skyrim. Outlaws like bandits who case a lot of problems are legal to kill in many short handed or busy lawful power. That what outlaw means anyways.
lofgren
Right, I was exaggerating for effect. The point is that if it's wrong to vigilante murder Grelod then it is just as wrong to vigilante murder bandits, and I don't understand why people have a problem with one but not the other. Bandits marauding the countryside is kind of an abstract problem for most of us, but just about everybody playing this game will know at least one person who suffered abuse or neglect as a child. To me, killing bandits is something I do because that's what the game consists of -- I don't really feel anything about it one way or the other. But killing Grelod is the closest thing to an actual catharsis in the game.
Boombro
he point is that if it's wrong to vigilante murder Grelod then it is just as wrong to vigilante murder bandits, and I don't understand why people have a problem with one but not the other. Because bandits are hostile npcs known among npcs because of their vile crimes, it very hard to pity people of such nature. Vigilantes kill them for being outlaws, self defense and bounty hunting. Many find problems with Grelod because she is not a hostile npc and not that evil compared to bandits while her quest make them able to destroy the DB guild. A quest any vigilant would be happy about doing. But they must kill an lady first. Hard for lawful and justice players since it not a deserving punishment and an odd way to get rid of her for such RP. Also, no that a pathetic catharsis imo. That a just a child abuser, nothing more.Alduin, Mirrack ( nailed it.) ending the DB, killing Maven BB, the dawngaurd, slaying upper predators ( cannibals, vampires and falmmer.) and bandit slaying is way more important cases. lofgren
"Pathetic?" Wow. Well I find your emotional investment in killing an imaginary dragon to be a juvenile denial of reality. Child abusers actually exist, and unfortunately killing them is wrong, so killing one in a game provides a base satisfaction that we are denied due to the complexities of human interactions with society. Alduin is a completely abstract construct with only strained and convoluted relevance to real life concerns. Imbuing him with any emotional significance at all is an attempt to find fulfillment in the avoidance of reality rather than the confrontation of it, and not only a waste of energy but probably stunting your emotional growth as a person. I mean, as long as we're just going to be childish dicks to each other.
Boombro
I meant in the Skyrim RP, not in the real world. No one said anything about the real world. I also don't investment emotionally in my games. I just do what suits to my RP and builds. You look very deeply into the topic.
simtam
I've seen several calls to make Grelod worse or allow the player to avoid killing her and I must say it is the strangest thing to me.But the OP showed a different direction - add a note that indicates that Grelod is prepared to fake her death. Perhaps she already drank that decoct of death faking or whatever - which explains why she drops down on even a slightest "Fus" shout. If anything, it makes the question: is the PC guilty of killing Grelod? even more convoluted. And it is very easy to make, so I'd recommend OP to learn how to make new books/letter/notes and just do it.
jaxtax1
Since my initial posting I have discovered two "good guy" tweaks under "Quests and Adventures"the mods "Boethiah for Good Guys" (which gives the ebony smithing perk, and "House of Horrors Alternate Ending" which allows you to free the priest from Molag Bal, and gives a non-artifact reward. I haven't been able to find the mod for joining the circle without becoming a werewolf. The "Grelod is a monster" mod requires dawnguard, which I don't have. Considering the number of mods which allow compassion for Paarthurnax, you would think there would be more that showed compassion for human beings. In the quest Whispering Door you must steal or kill. In the quest Only Cure you are sent to murder a priest. In another, the Namira quest, you must become a cannibal or fail the quest. I don't remember any previous Elder Scroll game that was anywhere near so depraved. I can understand not being able to join the thieves guild without becoming a thief, but shouldn't one be able to destroy the dark brotherhood without performing a murder? Boombro
You can.See the female beggar in Riften? Give her coin. Then cast fear on Grelod. She will eun outside, the beggar will kill her with a dagger. Paarthurnax has mods for him because he is a main quest npc that is nice and kind. There is Namira for good guys mod. Also, if there is quests that upset you. Don't do them.
Fenryr3001
So you are complaining that you can't please the god of murder and deceit without doing something evil?
simtam
He's complaining that PC always denies, falsely, when apprehended by a guard. Makes me wonder - Is this about some specific quest? The one in Markarth, maybe?
