mutegirl
So I came up with this idea for a quest mod involving the Boston symphony after I was listening to Classical Radio. My idea is that The Boston Symphony or The Boston Philharmonic would make a fabulous come back 200 (or so) years after The Great War. So I did some research, I looked up where exactly Symphony Hall is in Boston, it seems that its not in the same place on the map in fallout 4 (South East of Fenway Park or Diamond City) Honestly I wasn't expecting to find it since the Fallout world diverges at almost a 90 degree angle from the real world, but it was worth a shot. I digress... Anyway so I started coming up with ideas for an intro sequence with includes finding "Symphony Hall" and an intro cut scene while the orchestra is performing. Here's the document I put together: _______________________________________________________________________________________________ "The Boston Symphony" Fallout 4 Mod (ALL NAMES OF NPC's, LOCATIONS, AS WELL AS MUSIC SELECTION AND PLOT ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE) Note: Please forgive any spelling mistakes <3 [iNTRO] After discovering the show house >The player character enters an old dilapitated building"Symphony Hall". He finds himself standing in a rather s*censored*ylooking lobby. -As the player character is admiring the lobby heis stopped by a *young child*. The child exclaimsthat the performance is about to start, and thathe should find a seat. [[DIALOGUE]] -As the player enteres the show hall he is greeted by the sound ofthe orchestra tuning up before the performance as well the stunning architecture with designs all along the proscenium and concert hall,as well as the pipes from the massive Aeolian Organ on the back wall. [CUTSCENE] After the player takes his seat -The performance begins. The piece is Beethoven's Oboe Concerto Hess 12.( ) A slow panning shot moves across the orchestra with close ups on variousperformers throughout as the song plays and the intro credits appear.Close up on the Oboeist for his solo, as the rest of the orchestra joins back in,the title graphic slowly appears. (Author Note): After the title graphic appears I'd like the performance to carry out in its entirety (around 8 mins long) WITH the option to skip the rest via promptwhen the player gets up out of his seat. [MISSIONG START] After the performance, the mission start graphic will appear -The player is then approached by the conductor in the lobby. [[DIALOGUE]]______________________________________________________________________________________________ At that point the mission starts. That's what I have so far. I'm debating whether or not to have the symphony already formed or that the mission be to help form the orchestra, but I'm leaning towards the side of it already being formed, since that would break almost the entire intro sequence. Now, this is where I'd like to recruit the assistance of various artists and coder, since I don't know the first thing about development lol.As it stands now the GECK for Fallout 4 isn't out yet, so all I need to do for now is write up the sequence of events, script, and plot.I would absolutely LOVE to have this voice, but I recognize how difficult finding talent is, so its not my top priority.(heh wouldn't it be cool to get player voice actors in on this? One could only dream xD) Right NOW however, I'd like some feedback. What do you guys think about this idea? Feel free to give input and ideas to help improve it. If you'd like to get in on this or send me direct input here's my email: [email protected] I like to keep an open mind so feel free to give any ideas you feel that this project would benefit from! Peace out! [uPDATE] I'm gonna be turning this thread into a Dev Log of sorts, I'll be posting updates and ideas that we come up with from time to time. If you plan on playing this mod and don't want potential spoilers that will no doubt be included in this dev log, then you shouldn't follow our progress. Dhegonus
This is an original mod idea, i like it. I would say start off with having half the orchestra if not 75% complete personnel wise as a typical orchestra consists of 60 ish musicians. Unless, of course, when you are collecting the musicians it is more than one at a time. Would get rather repetitive. Just had a quick thought - Perhaps one of the missions is to retrieve a long lost sheet music document from the musuem of freedom and the salem witchcraft museum. Make it a totally investigative with no map references or mission markers with plenty of riddles to solve along the way. Something like that would be highly engaging and fun to play. I'll be following your progress, good sir! Edited November 25, 2015 by Dhegonus
mutegirl
I was thinking something along those lines, my idea was to find a rare instrument, but its the same concept. I love the idea of the 75% complete orchestra, maybe they could only be missing key members like the concert master or a soloist, to keep it from getting bored, another idea is that one of the key orchestra members would eventually become a companion, like the soloist or something. mutegirl
[uPDATE #1] So I've come up with a character description (SUBJECT TO CHANGE) for the conductor. Here it is. _____________________________________________________________________________Name: Meistro StressemanRace: Custom Mr. HandyGender: Male (So to speak) Description: Meistro Stresseman is a custom built Mr.Handy robottailor made for conducting the orchestra when the real conductoris away. He features a complete understanding of musical theoryas well as a master conductor. His personality is that of anelitist aristocrat. He believes himself to be the best musicianin the commonwealth (even the world). Although he's salty at humansbecause of their ability to play instruments, as he does not havehuman hands. Looks: Meistro Stresseman is just like any other Mr.Handy with somekey differences. His shell is painted to look as if hes wearing a conductors suit, he also has a tiny powdered wig on the top of hisbody. Stresseman is oriented so he has two arms on either side insteadone arm in the middle. His saw blade is replaced with a conductors batonand his flame thrower is replaces with a claw (the same as his 3rd arm)for turning pages on his scores. The third arm remains the same._____________________________________________________________________________ Feel free to give me input and criticism or ideas! mutegirl
I've also created a DEV CYCLE of sorts, its my way of planning this whole thing out. Here it is... _______________________________________________________________________________ The development cycle will be broken up into various phases to keepa smooth development process. To be fleshed out more in the future. Phase 1 is Pre-Production. Phase 1 will consist plot design, designing the sequence of eventsas well as character design and script writing and concept art.I will also be planning out the dev cycle more in this phase. Phase 2 will be early production This phase is model building and texture work. Perhaps sounddesign if needed. Phase 3 begins full production My hope is that the GECK will have been release by now and wecan begine work on custructing the mod in the GECK. As well ascoding in any additional mechanics that are needed. Phase 4 is sound design As you may have worked out, this mod is about music. So sound is very important. This phase will consist of finding (or even composing if needed) the music thatthe orchestra will play in the mod. As well as sound design. Maybe even voice overwork (this is a definite maybe that I'm seriously considering. We shall see.) (Although I imagine that sound design may be easy if needed at all, as most of thework has already been done by Bethesda) Phase 5 is finalization Testing and Debugging. Pretty self explanitory, this could either be a quick and easy phase or a complete *censored*.We shall see.... Phase 6 is promotion and finally realease! Phase 7 (Optional) Hey maybe well add more s*** to this mod WHO KNOWS! :D_______________________________________________________________________________ Once again criticism is welcome. roamwild
Despite almost falling asleep (was running on 2hrs) during the Quiet City medley, seeing the Boston Phil in the Hall was one of my favorite performances. The soundtrack you provided with the video helped but reading this made me smile. Great idea. Meistro Stresseman I love imagining. edit:typo Edited December 4, 2015 by roamwild
