Strong as a companion.

Has anyone found anything that he actually likes?

He doesn't care about helping settlements, open locks, or hack computers, or stealing things. He doesn't care about you killing people either.

He gives disapproval if you use power armor. He seems to give disapproval for picking up junk.

Didn't keep him around for long but he liked when I picked a couple of the goody-good dialogue choices. Definitely does not like if you even enter power armor just to move it. Had to leave him guarding a settlement just to get rid of the constant "Strong disliked this" messages.

I've heard people say Strong is hard to get approval for, especially considering being Goodie Two Shoes, Lockpicking, Hacking are things he disfavors. Which tend to be big deal criteria in lots of people's gaming. However, adventuring more with him and even with a Goodie Two Shoes playstyle, Strong was easy to get approval for.

1. Combat - Fighting alongside Strong and straight up killing stuff. He lives for that. I would just go into the ruins of Boston and randomly pick directions for the single purpose of killing things. There is no shortage of targets in that part of the map.

2. Repeatable Settlement Minutemen Quests - Accepting these repeatable quests for the Minutemen surprisingly is to Strong's approval. My guess is that it's you showing your strength while these weaklings can't do anything unless it involves your character to bail them out. Considering how often these quests come up, this is a good route.

My character is a Goodie Two Shoes who lockpicks and hacks. But going around and killing stuff, doing those MM Settlement Quests was a great way in getting Strong's approval without compromising what my goodie character was about.

@Warmaker

Actually, my guess is that it has to do with what he says later: that supermutants are all like brothers and share and cooperate. They're just hostile towards everyone else.

So essentially my guess is that he appreciates it when he sees that kind of behaviour towards your fellow humans. Basically you're acting like a strong supermutant leader when you go fight for members of your own species.

Took strong along just to see what he's like. He went down fighting 5 feral ghouls.. i stim-packed him up during the fight, and after the fight he went: "Why you helping Strong ?.. i'm not human..."

Guess he has a lot to learn...

After a while running around and fighting together, he said:: "Strong learned a new word.. Respect..."

Should be more people in the world learning like Strong......Too bad there's no stealth and sniping with Strong around.. or he'd be the perfect companion.

Strong's really easy to get approval for; just kill stuff. He also likes generosity and dominance. These last two seem contradictory to us but to most non-christian societies they are the pillars on which respect is built.

As an aside, I think Beth really missed a trick with Strong regarding his Shakespeare obsession: why not use bard quotes for his shouts?

"Go thou, and fill another room in hell."

"Action is eloquence."

"When beggars die, there are no comets seen"

"Cowards die many times before their deaths;

The valiant never taste of death but once."

@ Scribblesix - I agree that Strong should come out with a few lines from Shakespeare. After all he did spend time with Reginald who was always quoting the bard. Again another missed opportunity by the writers.

I tried taking on Strong as a companion but quickly tired of him disliking just about everything I did [looting placed items, lockpicking, hacking terminals etc etc etc] so I got rid of him in less than a day.

I also thought to see how the people in Vault 81 would react when I brought him down for the quest "Story Time" - not a peep from them. A few did note that I was wearing power armour but they said NOTHING about seeing a super mutant walking around in their vault. They should have gone hostile or at least you'd have to make a red level persuasion check in order for him to be allowed inside. Again another missed opportunity.
