Dark0ne
Good on you, Faust. Start looking up copyright acts and quoting them to her - tell her you'll report her to the prinicipal if you're forced to go through with it, its not on and its not right. Faust870
Well, I talked to her about it today, all she said was to get songs from someone else, shes so moronic, can't get anything through to her,... She says that i have to do it one way or another...what do you guys think i should do?
Emry
I would do the whole project (get your target, create the playlist, liner notes, media kit etc...) except for the actual burning of the CD. Keep the CD blank. In your liner notes put in a disclaimer that the copying of music without express permission of the artists and/or recording company is illegal and you will not be party to said illegal activities. If she marks you down on this project for that reason, you have solid evidence that she is in the wrong and can (and will) be held liable as such. I'd go to the principal and school board as needed at that time. Your other alternative is to use music that is already in the public domain and is not protected by copyright laws. I know for a fact that the group the Grateful Dead actually encourages people do copy and download their music (and for free) but having a CD of "Music To Get Stoned To.... :P " would not be appropriate. Hope this helps.
Faust870
See that is what i thought of doing, and i asked her if I was able to do that, she said no...and the reasoning was becuase we have to play a few tracks off the CD... So that puts down that idea :(..damnit Well I was watching TV and some bands said "We don't care if people download or buy our music, as long as people like, than we are happy"
Emry
To keep yourself out of trouble then, stick to music that is public domain. You'll do the project, but not get in trouble. How do the other students feel (do they care about the piracy?) If you get everyone in the class to boycott the project because of its illegal ramifications, I'd say that would teach the teacher a better lesson in media legalities than what she is asking you to do..... My sister did that in school once when they were learning about the American revolution. Most of the kids were dubbed "colonists", 5 or so were British subject and the teacher played the part of the Crown and Government. The teacher loaded the "colonists" with exta homework every night, but not the "Brits". This went on for almost two weeks. Tired of it, she got a bunch of friends to sit outside the classroom and refuse to go in until the "colonists" got a better say in the homework assignments. The teacher relented (he did make his point on how the colonists felt under British rule) but it did teach the class 1) about the American Revolution and 2) the importance to speaking out against injustices. Just a thought.....
Faust870
Well see, everyone in the class doesn't care at all... Probably since they all illegally download music,... The music I think im looking for is some classical, my theme is "Music to listen to while doing homework", and I can't have punk, rock...anything that makes you want to start drumming on your binders while you listen to it... Urg, why must i be stuck with this moronic teacher!!! Teacher :stupid:
Pob
Heres a possibility: Do as Emry described (good call BTW) and take the CD's containing the songs on in on original (if you don't have borrow from freinds/parents etc, should be okay for this purpose), then when she needs you to play the song you have the original. Also check copy right in the slevves as it may be okay to copy some stuff for educational purposes (as long as you acknowledge the source), it is with some books in the UK for example. It may also be you can copy a small chunk (but not the whole song), so that may be an idea. Just make sure you explain in your presentation/write up why you have deviated from the breif slightly. BTW what you doning the music on?
Faust870
I know what you mean, but the problem is - Im doing classical music, and i dont know anyone that has classical CD's lol...this is a toughy (what do you mean "Doning" the music on?) Emry
Can you get them from the local library's media center? BTW, doning was a typo - it should be doing .. ^_^ (sorry, my days as an English teacher came back to haunt me  )
