It's an extra receiver, i.e., non-replacer, which incidentally also swaps the texture with thge Silver SMG texture, and thus makes the gun look silver plated.

Well, ok, it's two receivers: a basic one and a more powerful 10mm one. You get the silver gun with the basic silver receiver instead of the default one if you start a new game, otherwise you can just make it at any weapons workbench, on any SMG. The 10mm upgrade hits harder, and thus breaks easier through armour too, but you can only manufacture it yourself if you feel a need to.

Both make any SMG look silver-plated, so basically you can have as many silver SMGs as you like. Or if you get a legendary SMG, you can upgrade it with either, and get silver plating in the process.

Personally I run around with one in each caliber as the Silver Shroud, so I can switch based on the situation and whatever ammo I have, and still look, you know, properly Silver Shroud like. Usually I have more .45, hence why I don't go all 10mm.

Some good stuff in this thread. The bit about changing magazines while you still have a round in the chamber is a good pro tip I have been taught but rarely see demonstrated. Even if you have to fire that round the gun will come back to battery and all you have to do is hit the slide release to chamber the next round. It is a lot easier to manage with something like a 1911 ACP. Some of the newer guns like the Glock 17 make it tough to keep track of how many rounds fired. I don't care for any breath holding techniques and really don't like that the game employs it. When I was younger I competed in biathlon events. Just try holding your breath after skiing 10km. Our coach taught us to aim and fire while exhaling. Good point about iron sights the gold front bead on my grandfathers 250-3000 deer rifle covers the entire body of a deer at 300m. Muzzle climb is compensated on a lot of modern combat rifles but can still be a factor. I owned an interdynamic tech 9 650 rounds per minute with a 1 3/4 inch barrel machine pistol. My friends called it the bullet hose. I sold that after a couple of weeks. While it was fun it had no accuracy and it went through $20 in ammo in seconds.

Oh When I said I held breath to fire a shot, it's not like in game to really hold breath. It's just for a split second to stabilize the aim. This technique is taught through many branches of military. But of course, shooting on exhale is good too. It is actually more of an advanced technique, like a pistol quick draw. In WW2 they didn't hold pistols like what they do now, aim, inhale, exhale, shoot. They pull out the gun and shoot, estimating a line of muzzle trajectory. My grandpa could shoot a 1896 Mauser more accurately if he does the cowboy style quick draw shoot. It's just natural to him.

Moraelin, I am holding off to download your mod because I honestly don't care about this SMG. My current assault rifle is the M2216 that I strip down to pistol grip only, and it looks very compact from outside (aesthetic) and in first person (which is a huge plus because we see our surrounding more even while aiming). Things like the Assault rifle looks cool but covers too much of the screen both in aim and lowered mode.

been trying to figure out the upside of using automatic weapons - just can't come up with a "why" these would be useful. The best I can figure out is -- more ammo usage -- hitting for less each time.

could someone please explain what I'm missing here.

Thank You.

Well, 99% of the time in any game if I'm given the option to play as a sniper, whether it's with a rifle or a bow, I'm a sniper. So, I get where you're coming from.

But, in FO4, if you can score yourself a gatling laser gun with exploding bullets (or console yourself one), you will clearly see how ridiculously badass they are. Also, Spray N' Pray is extremely useful at defending off surprise attacks by anything that's hard to shoot, like roaches and anything that can fly. I don't think I'd be happy playing solely with automatic weapons, but I always have a solid automatic rifle or pistol as a backup weapon.

I mean, I know this is a game, but it reflects real life. If machine guns weren't a viable option, you wouldn't see every military in the world using them. Sure, they aren't scrounging for ammo like you are in FO4, but then that's also part of the challenge of the game.

What this game really needs is select fire...what you don't see in real life are dudes with their assault rifles going full blast auto spraying lead all over the place, they fire in bursts (when they can).

Well, if we're talking explosive, I still vote for the mighty Boomstick, a.k.a., explosive shotgun. It's pretty much carpet bombing. Turns mirelurks and those little annoying mirelurk kids into minced cat food

I like incendiary shotgun too, though more for companions. Doesn't do as much damage as explosive, but it looks awesome. Looks like Dragon Breath ammo. Well, the damage ain't too shabby either. Cait just downed a vertibird with it.

Though, yeah, I'll grant that a high-speed explsive minigun is just plain old fun. With a nod to Spray'n'Pray too. After I put my high-speed silver receiver on it, it's in the ballpark of a minigun for fire rate.

I dunno man, I'm a big fan of the exploding shotgun too, it's my backup for Spray N' Pray if I don't have enough ammo, but I don't think it does near as much damage as an exploding gatling laser. That thing is about as OP as a shotgun that fires mini nukes. Especially in VATS...it will kill anything with one successful VATS attack.

Wounding Boosted Fiery Galtling Laser. I tried explosive and that's a lot of fun too but I prefer the wounding mod. Damage Over Time vs Area Of Effect. The AOE is better on the shotgun. If someone made an explosive shotgun minigun it might be able to do more damage than my Gatling Laser. It might be more than just a little OP but in my 4th playthrough I like mowing down everything in sight. Like Evil D said in VATS I give em one shot each. Then sit back and watch them explode vaporize burn and bleed out. Without using vats a solo assault on the castle with that gun was more fun for me than any other battle in the game. The mirelurks pour out at a steady pace and if you can stand your ground without being overcome your doing good. https://youtu.be/asRi8LcdAus
