LeonWolfe23
So I had decided to take a trip down memory past, and stumbled upon one of my favorite childhood game series. "Where in the _______ is Carmen Sandiego" Then I had got to thinking about making a quest/adventure mod once the GECK is released. The plan is a rather large project that would take quite some time and work to complete. But before I get to far into my plans I would like to know if there is enough interest in subject for it to be worth it. The general idea would to start out with the pip-boy being contacted and the player being recruited to ACME Detective agency, not much of the story would take place in the Boston area (this way it doesn't effect other quests) and I would be building other areas from scratch. The quest line would start out as where in the U.S., then move into the world, and lastly my favorite game in the series Time, going back and forth between the present and pre-war. Some of the thefts would be of lore, such as the first power armor prototype, thus causing much more of a loss during the war due to it taking longer to come out with what they wear in 2277. Others would be things like the TARDIS, this would be where Carmen goes through time, which one could argue is still lore friendly (TARDIS cameo in past games). The travel would be done via the airport which I would rebuild, and a cronoscimer. While on the chase each theft would lead to a different puny henchman of the crimson thief, leading up to the grand finale of catching Carmen Sandiego who has stolen the most dangerous thing she could to keep the main protagonist from being able to chase her in the first place. Like I already stated the mod would be huge and I would be looking for voice actors for I don't want this to just be silent, though I will if I have to. And I would always be open to ideas of other things to be stolen. This would bring the gritty mature atmosphere to that is Fallout to Carmen Sandiego. If you would be interested in playing it or wish to voice your opinion please let me know either here or via pm.
TeamBacon
I am always all for more quest mods. However, in my personal opinion I doubt a mod of this size would ever get finished. Start small, because even the mods that start small become quite large as you work on them. If you start with a massive mod that requires multiple cities across the world and many, many plot points, then it will grow to be impossible. Guest deleted2588518
TeamBacon has a point. The real gimmick behind Carmen Sandiego was geography trivia. I think the idea is great but might be overly ambitious. If you confined a first mod to Boston and then had expansions later to different locations that would be a more reasonable start. And would gauge if people liked it to warrant your time in creating another.
TheGreenLion
I would definitely start with a smaller portion myself as well, call it Act 1. Perhaps you could tie it into FO4 via the Mistress of Mystery, whose real identity is 'unknown'. You've got some reference to work with if you've done the Silver Shroud quest line, she's also part of the Unstoppables but little else happening with the character leaving a pretty clean slate to work with. You could still make a new Worldspace, or you could use one or several of the boarded up building shells as a workspace too. You could track her across Boston almost like the Railroad but even more discrete and difficult. There are many landmarks around to reference, allowing a geographical puzzle to solve. Leave it at a cliffhanger where you aren't quite quick enough to catch her. As a general rule, cliffhangers only work when there's more to come but it might present an opportunity to have a quest that you just can't 'win'. At least not in the first act. You'll also want to stagger out conclusions ending with a dead henchman, as most of the FO4 quests already do and it can get hum-drummy. She's a smart gal, so perhaps she leads you on into a trap or two that require more than firepower to escape. You've already got a longer Outline established, but it would make it easier to grab people for a shorter time than a 2-3 year project. I'd wager your idea would take about that long to complete in it's entirety if that's where your spare time was dedicated. Anywho just some thoughts you might ponder, sounds like it could be interesting as you seem passionate enough to stay driven to complete it.
jcdenton2012
The games were ok. In fact, I have some rather fond memories of playing them with my parents when I was a little kid (18 years ago... god I feel old), but I can't say the same for the Game Shows. In fact, the more Game Shows they made with the franchise the worse and worse they tended to become. That having been said, a side mission where you actually have to help Lupin III steal something before she can would be kind of fun... but I'm weird like that. LeonWolfe23
Thank you for your in put, and I thing mot of you have made a great point to make the overall mod in multiple playable stages. I see it almost as like an episodic tale, kind of like the Telltale games, or Life is strange. For those who might be looking forward to playing, I just want you all to know that I have some great ideas in store for this story.
Boombro
That not what they meant. They meant to start smaller projects first. Try building a town, a small quest mod and scripted stuff as an example. If you have Skyrim, it would be wise to know how to mod it.
TheGreenLion
Kind of, yeah. If Leon planned it out so that each part could stand by itself, he could give a go at the 'first stage' and get a good grasp of what he's in for without a giant To Do list that had to be in place before the quest would make sense. Quality quest mods were in general a rarity, mostly because it was a pain in the ass to create something that was on par with a Main Quest or some of the lengthy side-quests.

I think the creation kit should come with a warning message that tells people 'don't attempt giant 30 hour quest mods'.
jcdenton2012
I can actually relate to the 'Big Projects' stigma. Five years ago... "let's build Los Angeles," (laughs and cries a little). However, if you do intend to go all the way with this it might be best to ask Someguy for some advice. Not necessarily help, because... well... I know that he is already making plans for Fallout 4 on his own, but... advice none-the-less from him would be golden given his track-record.
