Commercial before downloading

Since when did we have to watch advertising before downloading files? Is it just to pay for the site or does the admin actually make money from this? I just switched accounts and this never happened on my old account. To be honest it's just a waste of time and energy, because we aren't going to buy the products anyway. I didn't even watch it. Do you even have any idea about how much money it takes to maintain the site? Who cares if we dont buy their products the site gets the money it needs to run. Trust me its more likely that Robin would spend his non-sited earned money on the site than use the site earned money on himself.

Waste of energy? I can't even comment on that...

They are video ads, they pay the owner on a recurring basis. Pay per click ads (like google Ads) require user interaction to be paid. You don't have to watch the ads, you can even put your fingers in your ears and say "lalala" over again, because they're still getting paid for it.

If you don't like 'em, feel free to fund servers and labour charges yourself... could be around £1000 a week?

It doesn't matter how effective these ads are for the companies involved. It's about how effective it is for the income of this site, any user that clicks counts and not every user is the same and a bunch does click them. If it wasn't effective enough they'd been removed. If you want to see the big picture, read this post.

The reason new types of income have to be generated is that it went from half a million users in 2009 to 2.2 million+ users now. Meaning that a lot more users are downloading from the sites. The sites are more popular than ever and with skyrim this will just increase. In order to cope with this growth, the site has to find new ways financing itself as with the older methods it didn't render sufficient.

alright, cool ;)

Just an "FYI" on what Pronam has said, most ads work on a CPM (Cost Per Mille, where "Mille" means Thousand) basis. So you get a fixed rate per 1,000 ads shown. Clicking has nothing to do with it. Most ad networks work on this basis except a select few that are CPC (Cost Per Click) that do, indeed, work the way Pronam has said. I use both on the Nexus sites but you shouldn't assume that just because you think no one clicks on the ads (they do) it doesn't generate any income.

When people say they'll deliberately click on the ads to help me I kindly ask them not to. I totally understand why they want to do it, to help support the sites, but I'd rather have a natural, real figure of how many people are clicking on the ads (as would the advertisers!) than have an inflated number from people clicking every advert they see. If you like something you see in an ad then that's great, click it! But please don't click the ads just because you think it'll help the sites :)

The video ads aren't going to be around forever, and they won't be here come, say, 11.11.11 (;)) but they are necessary right now to get some funds in the bank ready for, say, 11.11.11 ;)

Im kinda shocked I need to watch a 30 second video for a 30kb download. Perhaps you could scale it better? I could understand if I was downloading a few 100 mbs or something, but cmon. I'd hate to stop coming here but Im not watching adverts for every tiny download. Edited by Bonafide

You have to understand that the delay is minimal

It takes a modder even for a small file usually weeks of work

It takes Dark0ne tens thousands of dollars per year to maintain the site

And it takes you 30 seconds to download. and there is always the premium feature.
