JimboUK
Some tips I've picked up today from various experts..... Do....Call your bank, if they won't replace your card then insist a note is put onto your account stating you believe the card is compromised, that puts the ball in their court. Change your passwords on other sites especially for banking and email, change any security questions too.Check statements thoroughly and if you have online banking check daily and report anything suspicious immediately, fraudsters usually make a few small transactions before going for the big one. If you suddenly start to get less mail through the door then check with your postal service that a redirect hasn't been put on mail to your address.Sign up with a credit company that monitors your credit, if any queries are made from any companies you don't recognise then report it to them immediately. If you receive any bills or letters from companies you don't use then report it to them, anything that looks like you've had dealings with them when you haven't.If your bank or anyone else you have dealings with calls you and starts asking security questions before they'll speak further, hang up, go and find their number (don't use caller ID) and call them back.Beware very aware of phishing attempts, not that Sony have left much need for phishing. :verymad: Do not....Sit on your arse and hope it all goes away.Leave it all to your bank, they won't help when the police knock on the door because someone has bought something illegal with your card, they won't help when the bailiffs knock your front door down demanding repayment of a loan you know nothing about. There are a whole list of things that can happen when someone has your identity, none of which will go away.

ub3rman123
I can hardly wait to read Sony's apology letter for this snafu.. Not to mention the presumed public decapitation of those responsible (Probably what Sony would want for them).

Tikkidew
That was an interesting read Thor. This part is worrisome, to put it mildly. The personal data table, which is a separate data set, was not encrypted, but was, of course, behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack. Even though credit card information may or may not have been compromised, selling people's personal information is actually very profitable in this era of identity theft. Luminiari
Is anyone else even remotely annoyed at the whole 'we sorta made a half-arsed attempt at keeping your personal information safe with our apparently super-special-awesome security system coz we didn't feel the need to encrypt your data' thing? WAY TO GO, SONY. GG. Edited April 29, 2011 by DesuChan

Look at it this way- if you don't have a PS3, you can't play Metal Gear Solid 4. Do what I'm going to do. Create a new account with a fake name, address and date of birth, then fund your wallet using only PSN cards which can easily be purchased from your local JB Hi Fi or Myer. There. Nice and simple, and you won't be at risk, and you'll still be buying your games/DLC/other various junk legitimately.
