How to make LOOT work with Fallout 4

I've tried reading the initialization section on the main page, but that's just useless general crap about how LOOT works; there's nothing that details the specific actions I have to take to make LOOT recognize Fallout 4 file paths and s***.

Get LOOT Version 0.8.1. from here, install it and it should find the game by itself. If it doesn't just tell it where you have it installed manually.

Alternatively, you can get one of the snapshot builds here and use it. Mind you though, snapshots of non-released builds aren't guaranteed to be stable.

Okay, let's make something clear-I don't have a god damn clue what I'm doing.

I downloaded the latest 64x snapshot build for loot, and copy pasted it into the loot folder, using admin permissions to allow overrides. Fallout 4 is still not showing up.

Can someone post a jpeg or something showing me what the LOOT Settings should look like when I'm done?

Hello,

Download 'LOOT.v0.8.1.7z' from this link - https://github.com/loot/loot/releases/tag/v0.8.1

Create a folder in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\' called 'LOOT'

Extract its 'LOOT.v0.8.1.7z' In to the 'LOOT' folder you just created.

Double click on LOOT and it should find Fallout 4.

If it doesn't, go to the settings page and manually add the information in.

The Masterlist Repository URL - https://github.com/loot/fallout4.git

The Install Path Registry Key - Software\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout4\Installed Path

See the screen shot

hope this helps

Everything else was right, but I can't make it use the correct game ID.

The base game drop-down menu doesn't have Fallout 4 as a choice.

Do you mean that it is greyed out in the menu? I'm not sure what you mean by 'everything else was right' - what was right, and what wasn't?

If you have the correct information for YOUR installation - not anyone else's - then you should have it working.

The only reason (unless something else is broken) you should not be able to choose Fallout 4 from the drop-down menu is if:

in LOOT settings, for FO4, your Install Path Registry Key is not correct, AND you have an incorrect Install Path.

Where is your game installed - your Fallout exe - Did you install the game through Steam, and did you change the installation directory?
