HandofBobb
and you do realize, people get stronger in real life? I mean really- the average person in the modern world has a loadout of less than 10lbs- start lugging around 60-100lbs all day everyday and walking everywhere, and anyone would put on some muscle mass. ^- In reference to this. I'm an active duty Marine, and I can most assuredly tell you that, our average gear (non-combat) is about: 40-50lbs. Flak with mags, kevlar, cammies, boots and rifle. Now a combat load. We are talking...rations, ammo, full protective gear, rifle, field gear is in all about 80 to 100+ lbs. Just so you know constant stress in the form of packs on your back from loads of 50+ lbs are guaranteed to give you nerve and spinal damage as well as bad knees and ankles. Primarily, because that weight is supported by your hips. If the OP wanted to keep it real like. I advise you can run with 50-80 lbs, but after that, reduce character speed and at 120 completely stop movement. anyhow, just my two cents. I wasn't talking about combat loadouts, I meant what the average joe takes with him on his daily drive to his white collar job where he sits at a desk all day. In the fallout universe many outfits would weigh as much as our non-combat loadout i would imagine. I was primarily pointing out that unless your character trained, going from carrying 10 lbs to 80+ lbs wouldn't necessarily just make them stronger. JTL2
Does the game uses a direct 1 Carry Weight equals 1 US Pound?
theoneandonlyboiler
I think the brahmin follower idea sounds the most realistic. I can envision carrying capacity upgrades in multiple stages. First, you just have pockets. Can't carry anything but a few pounds max. Then you can buy a backpack, which maybe increases carrying capacity to 25-50 lbs depending on size of the pack. Then you can get a brahmin with a small side-saddle pack that can carry more weight, 50-100 lbs. You can then buy him pack upgrades to carry 100+. The Provisioner brahmins look like they're carrying 1000 lbs. Maybe it could be upgraded with things like super strength cybernetic implants or adamantium skeleton to carry multiple thousands of pounds. If you overload him, it starts to affect his speed. Say, a couple hundred pounds overloaded, he's moving very slowly. More than that, he just sits on his ass and refuses to move. I'm liking the brahmin idea, I would use such a mod. Now that would be absolutely awesome! I just hope someone makes such a mod as I doubt my skills are sufficient for something as complex as this. I'm sure I could make a simple brahmin follower if I put my mind to it, but backpacks and upgrades along with behavioral stuff would need some serious scripting I guess, which is not my strength. I was in the army to, but that would be the swiss army, which means I never got beyond training and exercise. Compared to you guys we're nothing but amateurs. And I doubt our combat loads (which we only use on exercises obviously) are anywhere near as heavy as yours. The only times we reach 100+ lbs (if ever) is when moving from one base to another with all our stuff. And it's certainly not something I'd want to experience for any extended period of time. But for gameplay purposes we have to "bend the rules" somewhat to keep things fun. Of course having your character run around with 120lbs would create serious health problems in the long run. But on the other hand playing a big gun character is only possible with that kind of carry capacity. So in the end we have to come up with something that is as realistic as possible but can still support all possible characters and play styles. I don't see what I want to do as a full on realism mod. That I leave to others. What I want to achieve is more like a rebalancing to make things more challenging and satisfying while trying to get as much realism in as possible. But gameplay balance and fun is clearly my first goal.
