Illius
Okay i tried searching for a topic that was related to my question but i have not found one, so i am going to satisfy my curiosity and still ask. (Sorry Dark0ne :) ) Until a few days ago my download speed was some where between 250 and 300 kb, but since then it suddenly dropped to 20 to 80 kb? (Mostly around 30/35 kb) Now do not get me wrong, i am not asking this for financial reasons ore something like that since i have a cable modem so time is not a problem. First i thought that maybe my Internet provider hat problems but downloads on other sites are fast as always, just not from Nexus. Is this because of the attacks on Nexus recently, or has this been done intentionally? If so then why, because downloads take a whole lot longer. Does that not increase the traffic on Nexus? Dark0ne
There's nothing obviously wrong when I look at the bandwidth traffic graphs. Have others noticed a marked decrease in download speeds on all the file mirrors recently?
evilneko
I just tried downloading some things off non-premium servers (since the OP isn't premium) and got between 420-500 KB/s, which IIRC is what I was getting before I got premium. The Dallas "non premium" server pumped out 2 MB/s for me.
Telyn
IE says I am getting 2.5 MB/sec on the Dallas premium server right now, but there are only 3 people on it. I do notice it is highly variable. It was down to 1.1 MB/sec just now. No complaints. Same download still, now 549kb/sec. Lots of variance.
Illius
Hmm seems that despite what i first thought the problem is on my side then. Weird because on all other sites that i download from i have good to very good download speed? Guess i need to contact my internet provider and see if they know why this is happening on only this site for me? Edited May 9, 2011 by Illius
Dark0ne
If it's happening on every file server (try every one, even the UK one) then it would be very odd as there's nothing going on on the file servers that's out of the ordinary as far as I can see. evilneko
There are a lot of variables that affect your download speed from any particular server. It may not even be at your end or even your ISP's end. It could be just one or two links at some provider in the middle playing up. Pretty much guaranteed you won't get very far talking to your ISP's support drones without a lot of persistence and deity-like patience. Even if you get one that's clued in there's likely little if anything they can do.

Or restart your computer and see what happens? Stuppid questions and answers. Any way after all that this morning my download speed on Nexus was still very low as mentioned in my first post...but just now i tested again after having read your post and...what the heck, not only is the download speed back but also seems to have improved some how for the moment. Tried downloading a file of around 200 mb and depending on the link i got speeds ranging from 320 to even just over 660. The fastest appeared to be the Washington DC server and the UK server, well at least for this file. Let's hope it stays this way. Thanks every one. :)
Pronam
Lots and lots of variants depending on what way you're connected to the internet. These are just a few: The distance between your place and the local distribution centre. (which often fixes your speed to a max lower than what you pay for.)The type of cable that's between your place and the local distribution centre. (copper/glass fiber/cable/etc)The distance from the distribution centre to the main grid The reliability of your providerThe reliability of the provider of your provider (most of the time the cables/wires aren't owned by the one providing your connection)The account of the provider of your provider (usually goes from bronze to gold, it doesn't just determine the fact how quickly issues are solved. It also accounts how consistent the connection is.)The contracts between providersThe site that's hosting files (and their provider)Any other things that are downloaded in your place or in the backgroundIf you're using a wifi-connection (those can vary a lot, the larger the distance, the more waves of inconsistency)The length of the cable in your place (the longer, the more loss.)If your connection is cappedIf the connection is shared with other things (TV for example)If your speed depends on how many people are using it at the same time in your area (This happens a lot)
