JimboUK
Hrm... terrorist? Na. Once you get behind a cause, you're a rebel. It's basically the same thing, but one sounds nicer.Better tread lightly then...did you know about a report designed to help police identify militia members or domestic terrorists and what red flags were listed? Support Ron Paul / 3rd-party candidates? Think nothing wrong with the "don't tread on me" symbolism? There other other examples and you can see actual copies of this report on this page. People are more-likely to not react to large changes if subjected to small changes over a long time. Disagreeing with the government is also seen subversive here... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/oct/25/police-surveillance-protest-domestic-extremism You have to laugh at the hypocrisy of our governments as they preach freedom and liberty to other countries while turning their own into police states. ginnyfizz
I know what you mean, I well remember being filmed whilst peacefully protesting, not to mention getting a police baton wrapped around my head. (Before anyone asks, I had merely been yelling "No ban" and had responded to a police officer's request to move along with "Yes officer, where do you wish me to move to?" Not at the demo being mentioned in the article, but at another one protesting about government policy. There is a real danger that all opposition gets labeled as terrorism. Shocking to see that it is happening in the US too.
Ghogiel
I'm not shocked in the slightest in seeing the US gov do that. There are many examples of such.. granted after 9/11 things did rapidly worsen, the US gov can do things like make a compulsory purchase of your land/home. My aunt had several yards of her front yard basically stolen. They can do that in the UK as well. And they decide the price. Stratford is prime example. They basically gave a friend half of what the property was worth, their home and business, poof into thin air. Even if the property was valued correctly, you can't really put a price on years of trade and custom built up with hard work. Take note of many euro protester groups. Wear masks if you don't want to be profiled by the authorities. It could save you untold hassle. Edited May 30, 2011 by Ghogiel

Gradually eroding our rights, so that no one would take notice of the 'larger picture', and the dramatic changes that are readily apparent, when viewed from a distance. This is a trend I do not see being reversed any time soon.

csgators
There are never gradual moves towards freedom, that takes a dramatic shift. Once that has happened we slowly allow our liberties to be eroded again.
