It can become a major issue. I love the site and all the work you and your crew have put into making this site where it is today but these ads are a major annoyance. I even think that cintera.html thing I mentioned is what destroyed my previous windows vista pc a long time ago; I remember because I was trying to be an active member back when it was just fallout 3 and the beginning of New vegas, I was browsing, of course I had these ads, then all of a sudden that Pc got infected with something. I didn't have anti virus at that time so after a few months that PC never turned on again. That was the past now but this should say something if that one ad that may pop up turns out to be malicious and actually infects an unfortunate person's PC. Right now I had trouble even typing this reply because of these ads. Hope these ads get sorted whenever possible. Edited March 15, 2016 by mrresistance

I know one of them is Musinex that slows down everything to the point where I have to, "wait" until the ad is over and then things run smooth again until another ad shows up. Not all ads do this, but for me, it's almost all of them and my computer is not at all bad. Old, but not bad, especially my connection speed and other things. Some play auto-sound and once in a great while will make me jump so I end up muting the sound.

The main problem I have with the AD sounds is when I am viewing the u-tube videos included with the mods. While I am watching the instructions or walk throughs, the AD sounds come on in the background and completely drown out what the u-tube commentator is saying. These ADs are mostly for games and thus have loud video clips included with them. I wish I had a way to mute them. I don't mind the ADs when I am viewing mods, but I would like them disabled (or at least the sound) when I am watching the u-tube videos. (I can't see the advertisements anyway while I am watching the u-tube video full screen.) Edited March 15, 2016 by PhaseMaster

You still need an up to date antivirus. However, I have found that the absolutely FREE Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) from MalwareBytes ( a very highly regarded antivirus company) will kill many garbage malware that many AV programs will allow.

 

The reason they allow them is YOU allowed them to be installed by not reading or not understanding the TOS of some site that snuck them in on you. Many of these are malware that hijack the legitimate ads and send you to their own ad servers - and you approved of them doing that without realizing it. :wallbash:

 

JRT is fast and small. It doesn't have a fancy UI, it runs from the command line. But all you have to do is press a key and it does the rest. It takes about 5 minutes on my moose of a computer. It is updated very often to keep up with the vermin that infect your computer with their trash, and will always check to be sure it is running the latest version when started. It is NOT an antivirus, and does not stay on your computer, it only runs when you start it first. You can delete it when it is finished and it leaves NOTHING behind. There are no nag screens or offers to sell you a more better version.

I used to experience lots of annoying ads, like the ones that play sound. As well, I'm not sure if it's this way now since I have a supporter membership, but when I didn't... Well, I'll try to explain as best I can.

 

When ads go on for a while, they refreshed, just changing to a different ad. That's all well and good, but the previous ad wasn't cleared from the RAM, which brought up CPU and RAM usage continuously until you exited the page. I remember once I had like 6 Nexus tabs open, and had to leave my computer for a couple hours. When I came back, my RAM usage for Chrome was several gigabytes, and half the tabs had crashed. It can also be a severe determent to your processor. I don't remember specifically the worst, but I can remember that several times when I had multiple Nexus tabs open, it would use up more and more of my processor, often getting higher than 50% usage on a 4790K.

 

The culprit seemed to me like it's that when the ads refresh, they keep using up your processor and RAM, even though it's no longer visible. But, again, I've had a supporter membership for quite a while I don't know if it's the same now.

Oh sweet cheese and crackers, no. That's a horrible future. Although, to be completely honest, that wouldn't hinder playing with mods in ANY way. People would simply upload their stuff (or other people's stuff) elsewhere. So that silly and - let's hope to god - hypothetical restriction will do absolutely nothing.

The real point is how to turn over more memberships. How do you turn more users into paid memberships?

If you read Dark0ne's post he says the same thing. Forbes is blocking AddBlockers now and they are not the only ones to do it.

Now that doesn't mean that there won't be AddBlockers. It does mean that the future will be different and your experience online will not be the same as it is today.

My PC isn't bad either. But um... I can't mute the sound of these ads so I have to deal with annoyances Olivia Munn, Proactive, "Build your mighty empire" blah blah blah, etc.
