I was thinking about this the other day and wanted you guys opinion on this. It seems, since the information age the usual suspects of every bodies social agenda has been slowly moving it's way from town hall meeting to the larger versions of mass media and is that a good thing as far as being thought provoking or is it more group think?

I think too many people set themselves up as representing the 'social conscience' of the public and then tell everyone who doesn't agree with their views that it means they are unthinking idots or political (or, sorry mods, but I've got myself into a bit of pickle, and I have to mention a word beginning with 'Reli', with a 'g' in the middle and ends in 'ous', if that's caused too much trouble then I apologise, and would like to ask you to just cut out this bit in brackets) bigots who should be slienced (so much for 'Je suis charlie').

On the other hand, I think the 'mob mentality' tend s to come to the fore where social media is concerned, and so people get carried away all sorts of brainless stupidity.

There is no "Social Conscience". There is your conscience, my conscience and the consciences of the the other 7.5 billion people on this planet. Sometimes, your conscience may agree with mine. Sometime your conscience may agree with the consciences of the majority of the mass of humanity. But the bottom line is that there is only one conscience that is relevant. That conscience is the one that tells each of us to "Do the right thing."

That said, "Social Conscience " is one of those phrases that political, theological and business leaders use to try and make us "leetul peepul" believe that we are part of some kind of collective thinking/feeling/emoting mass. It is a means of control by pseudo-empowerment. The "Social Conscience" says so-and-such is the right thing, so we must follow that path. It may not be the right thing, but because someone told us that is it the will of the "Social Conscience", we blindly go along.

In reality; society is a barely controlled mob that "goes along to get along", and a mob has absolutely zero conscience. A mob moves by instinct. So those who would exercise control over the mob invent things like "Social Conscience" so that they can direct the mob where they think it must go. They manipulate our thinking by telling us what is or ins't right and then reinforcing those thoughts by telling us "this is the way everyone feels". The "Social Conscience" becomes "Social Master".

The funny part is that most people resent being thought of as part of some "collective whole". Most people have visions of themselves as the great rugged individualist. But they don't want to offend the powers that be, so they meekly adhere to the "Social Conscience" and follow the Judas Goat.

And the sad part is that we know we are being manipulated. And still, we follow.

Social Conscience is "Hive Mind" and it certainly is a thing.

There's no option also for the cliques that form usually in late grade school and continue into college. There's no option also for the SJW movement, PC movement and all the other movements involving race, culture and sexuality.

A great deal of people try to tell you how to think and act and this is also not limited to any particular group.

We follow to feel like we are right, superior or just to maintain our bubble of comfort.

Didn't vote because poll isn't very clear to me. Feels like topic says that people get forcefully zombified by suggested sources, which might be true from some point of view, but doesn't really make lot of sense in "big picture".
