chitMickey
After tampering with fallout.ini, it seems I've ruined my only save file. I've played on this particular save for 26 hours, so I am truly sad. :( Anyway, it'll still play on "uGridsToLoad=6" but with a significant drop in performance. This is enough to make the game a lot less enjoyable. I did read somewhere that once a file is saved while "uGridsToLoad" is set higher than 5, it will no longer load on any lower setting; I figure this is the case. But is there any fix? No going back? The extra detail in the distance is nice, but it messed up my once excellent framerate. ;((( Help is greatly appreciated. MichikoUnknownFox
I don't think that's true. I used to have a uGridsToLoad set to 11, and while it wasn't necessarily slowing my game down, it was more unstable and I was getting crashes and stuttering more often when entering a new area. So I reverted uGridsToLoad back to 5 and it loaded the same save file just fine. Just in case there is some truth to it, you can try going into an interior cell (an indoor room like your Megaton house or some other small interior), and save there. After that, you can try lowering the uGridsToLoad.
nosisab
Have you changed the load order (assuming a reasonable long load list)? You may want to try BOSS (search for it here on nexus) and even redoing the bashed patch if it applies.

I tried what you describe and it still crashed. :{ Have you changed the load order (assuming a reasonable long load list)? I don't have any mods installed right now, so no help there. Thanks though. :P
nosisab
May be a little late now, but you should consider using something like This icremental saver utility. Notice it need NVSE (what you should use too). A few utilities are like a Must have, among these are FOMM and NVSE. But a few others are in that category too, like FNVEdit. The mod at the link autosave the game in cycling slots and is highly configurable. So, even if you lose a save game you'll have another as near as possible to the point you are in game.
