huntsman2310
okay what I mean is this. I've chosen a bright green material for the iron sight tips, chrome for the gun barrel and receivers and a dark gun metal for the main casing (there are more materials but they aren't the ones with weird problems.) anyway. will my chosen materials show up on my gun in-game? or will the texture map override it? ub3rman123
The texture map will cover it, but it will still have that shade to the texture.
huntsman2310a
So say if I have a scarred, worn gun metal material for the main casing, and put a texture over that, would the main casing retain the properties of the material and the colour of the texture? Or could I just skip textures all together and just use materials. that would make the finished product look like a lump of grey goo wouldn't it? ub3rman123
It'd sort of blend together. Think of the color on the material as shading that'd go onto the thing. It'd probably remove some of the detail. I say you should remove the color from the model and instead color the texture the way you want it.
Ghogiel
In oblivion nif material properties diffuse color is afaik over ridden in game by the presence of a diffuse map. Ambient color is afaik totally dependent on ambient lighting in the scene. In Fallout nif material properties, both diffuse and ambient color have been removed from the nif all together. the only way to color it is without textures is vert colors... which will tint the diffuse map if used in conjunction. You don't really want to skip textures, as that is the primary way you are ever going to get a desirable material definition with these shaders...
