JimboUK
It looks like MPs are very serious. Rupert Murdoch, James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks were all "Invited" to appear before the committee, only Brooks accepted their "offer". In a very unusual move the house has now issued a formal summons which if ignored could (will given the mood of MPs) see them held in contempt of parliament, lord only knows what happens after that. ginnyfizz
This gets more and more serious. Earlier today, Rebekah Brooks was arrested. Now the Commissioner Of The Metropolitan Police, Paul Stephenson, has resigned "due to speculation about his links to Murdoch's empire and the force's botched investigation into hacking at the now-defunct News of the World tabloid." This could go right to the heart of Government, as the Prime Minister and some of his predecessors in office are friendly with Ms Brooks.
Dark0ne
I love how the BBC report on the links between Murdoch and the current government (namely Cameron) but never talk about the links between Murdoch and Brown and Blair, who used him SO MUCH in Mandelson's New Labour world of spin. Blair called Murdoch every time anything important was raised in parliament...Murdoch was on speed-dial! The BBC news is pathetic, biased left-wing crap and I find it infuriating that I am FORCED to endorse them with license fees.
ginnyfizz
Me too, Dark0ne. That's why I was careful not to say just Cameron but also his predecessors. I do find it disturbing as well that Cameron has learned nothing from the way that Mandelson type spin and greasing up to the media inevitably goes pear shaped. JimboUK
The timing of Brooks arrest stinks to high heaven, it stops her speaking to MPs on Tuesday in front of the Culture, Media and Sport select committee. There are now rumours doing the rounds that James Murdoch will be picked up tomorrow, if that happens then the police have basically buggered the meeting on Tuesday. Several MPs have tweeted their disapproval and I dare say the Home Affairs committee will want to know what the hell the police are playing at. The Dowler family lawyer wasn't amused either, he called it suspicious and hinted the police were more interested in protecting their own than getting to the truth. I still can't understand why the Met is being allowed to investigate itself, it's quite normal for an outside force to be bought in situations like this. The Guardian and their broadcasting arm at the BBC are turning this into some kind of anti Murdoch Jihad, neither have mentioned the Mirror who we know are involved because not only did Piers Morgan admit to it in his book he also explained how it was done. As for the hypocrites in the Labour party they wouldn't be able to get away with it if the PM wasn't a gutless waste of space who would rather go into hiding than come out fighting. </rant>
greywaste
And one of the whistleblowers has just karked it.. while this feasibly *could* be foul play, I'm going to open up my Tinfoil hat stall early tomorrow anyway. :geek:
Aurielius
From what I see on this side of the pond it's a feeding frenzy, there seems to be an attitude that Labour was never in bed with Murdoch at least thats what the BBC America is presenting...a Liberal and Conservative cabal with innocent Labour shocked on the side lines. Funny thats not how I remember the relationship, everyone kissed the ring of Murdoch..everybody.
marharth
I heard somewhere the whistleblower is dead...? I really don't know if that's true and I kind of doubt it, can anyone confirm that? Also, Rupert Murdoch was attacked today during the hearing. EDIT: I think he got a pie thrown at him, seriously EDIT: It was definitely a pie pan, don't know about the pie.
