Iv000
Personally, I don't have problems with a monthly fee.Guild Wars 2 looks amazing, I would get it even if it had a monthly fee.But because it hasn't, and it has those micro transactions, I plan on buying an item every month just to support the devs. I see monthly fees like this:You probably eat a few pizzas or burgers every month, you could once or twice not order a pizza and make a sandwich(or other food) from things you have in your fridge. The money you gain from not buying the pizza is enough to pay the monthly fee.You get another month of fun, and you lost almost nothing. hoofhearted4
like i said id almost rather play a game with monthly fees. those fees are guaranteed money for the devs. that money allows them to support the game (which is ideally what they would do) add DLC, expansion packs, patches, etc. when a game is F2P there is no guaranteed money. since no one HAS to buy the MTs. now a days though, most games have both, and i like that. the monthly pay for the guaranteed money, and the MTs for the extra. and i might buy a thing or two every now and then if i like the game. even if its just cosmetic. also, on monthly fees. they needed be outrageous. i remember looking at an MMO once (idr what it was) with $39.99 monthly fees. im all set on that. $19.99 is my limit really MAYBE $24.99 if im into the game. but i think the fees really need to only be $9.99 or $14.99. with a game like SWTOR thats sure to have good initial sales, and a crap ton of ppl paying monthly fees, low monthly fees would surely cover whatever their money needs would be and on top of that the MTs. im hoping SWTOR will be $10 or $15 cause thats all it needs to be. the one thing that F2P has over fees is if you stop playing you dont need to cancel anything or reinstate anything when you go back, you simply play when you want to. monthly fees almost pressure you into play to get your moneys worth. when i was playing Champions Online, i played for a couple of months, then stopped for a couple of months, but payed for those couple of months i wasnt playing. now i pay attention and cancel my subscription if im not going to play, and i usually only pay one month at a time instead of paying for months at a time. even with WoW when i bought it, i only played it for a month before i got bored. Vagrant0
Just wanted to clarify, there is a difference between having a MT or subscription program which pays for the costs of running a game, and one which is so built into the game that one cannot play without constantly tripping over or otherwise needing MT items or other extras. I have a feeling that EA will almost certainly do the later. The reason why it is bad is not because it gives an advantage to players with a disposable income, but because often the gameplay itself is designed to wring as much money from a player as it can in otherwords, the sort of extras that are still voluntary, but are needed to really be able to play the game unless you rely on someone else to foot the bill. hoofhearted4
i really dont see that happening for SWTOR. but if it does it does, they will lose a lot of money. lol
