Okay Nifskope is being very....uncooperative.

Recommended Posts

see I made a test copy of my custom weapon.

I haven't made the uv map for it yet, since I was just testing the right way to get it into the game.

Now I did this on Blender 2.5.8, so there was importing and exporting.

To get by this I went into Blender 2.49 and Exported the .Blend file.

Now it is ready for Nifskope.

So I go to Nifskope and click load.

I click on my model.

with expectant glee, I watch the black render screen for about 10 seconds.

It wasn't there.

At this point I noticed a white dot in the middle of the screen.

And here I am.

is there a reason for this? And how do I fix it?

It can be problematic going from a 2.5x model back down to Blender 2.4x due to massive differences in how everything is done in the new version. Anything with animation, rigging or morphs can be chunked out the window if you are trying to convert a 2.5x blend file to 2.4x.

But if version differences are not the problem, are you sure you selected everything (A key) before you exported? If not, your NIF file will be free of any NiTriStrips.

As for "getting it in game" without a texture, be careful with that. You might not be able to get anything that doesn't crash the game immediately by going that route. If nothing else, do a quick UV and assign it a basic black DDS texture (even 1x1 pixels) and then make sure there is a normal map DDS to avoid in-game issues.

actually thats probably whats wrong, I didn't have to worry about losing any rigging or animations because I'm just doing a simple custom model, nothing special.

Bascially this is just a test version.

So essentially the reason it won't show up in Nifskope is because it doesn't have a uv map?

I think the model would still show up but completely white. If you see nothing, it is possible you did not select all objects before export...thus creating an empty NIF file.

NifSkope will also have trouble displaying the texture if the texture is 2048 x 2048 or higher.
