I'm a huge fan of New Vegas and FO3 and also The Elder Scrolls series and being waiting for this game too come out like forever but now its out I just cant seem to get into it? I walk around for awhile and just get bored and pick it up were I left off and slowly the excitement dies really quick? I remember New Vegas hooked me in straight away and could play for hours and hours. Soon as I left Doc's house I was like Okay were do I go, it was exciting to walk around. anyone recommend any mods or anything to get me started, I don't want to do the main mission yet, just want to build up my character and then explore the depth of the game.

Just do whatever you want, go whereever you want. I played over 1000 hours since release (this is double time to skyrim, 5x fo3, 5x fnv for me), and in every new playthrough i see things, buildings and stuff, i never saw before.

If you enjoy building i recommend using homemaker and build th sh** out of the commonwealth.

If you enjoy exploring, just go explore, maybe play on survival for that extra thrill, use "adjusted encounter zones" if you like even more thrill.

I highly recommend to get cait, curie Hancock and mcreedy to play their quests.

What i do in most playthrougs is:

- join Minutemen, conquer the north and build some stuff.

- from graygarden on, join BoS and do some quests

- after coming to goodneighbor or diamond city, try to join the railroad

- do all kinds of things

- eventually join the institut and do some things for them

- do more things for RR and BoS

- conquer every settlement and build stuff, shops, make fortune

- and finally, have fun

FO4 fails to pull you into the environment like the previous titles. The MQ is better done as a linear game and not Open World, and the intro does nothing to set you up for a reason to explore and live in the world. Not to mention how half assed they did the world building considering the insanely rich real world back story of the area that could have been brought to life in proper parody in FO.

So yea it fails to hold like the previous titles, just play it when you feel like it and stop when you dont.

I am going to start Far Harbor today but for the last week and a half I have concentrated on Spectacle Island and used the Restored mod then fitted the whole place as a swish hotel, big greenhouse for the settlers to work in and a swimming pool plus two other large buildings to live in.

So if you are into doing the buildings that's the way to go ?

I didn't get into it.. got out of it and I only swing by here every couple of weeks to see if someone has done some massive makeover mod that will prod the whole fiasco into a direction I can summon some interest for. Beth have destroyed this game for me with all the stuff such as pulling unfeasible weapons out of your a$$ to grind down bullet-sponge 'baddies' for absurd stories lines... Naaa,

Maybe in a year someone will have rescued this mess with a 'Project Brazil' type thing but I gravely doubt it, because consoleers wont ever be able to use that, and that is what it is all about now isn't it? Kudos from those lightweights.

See y'all back in the Mojave.

I don't think a single modder on the Nexus is actively modding simply to appease the console crowd o.O I also don't understand your "pulling unfeasible weapons out of your ..." line. What exactly do you mean...?

If you really aren't into this game but really liked or loved FO3 and FONV then I suggest TTW. Combo of both with all of the DLCs and really done very well and very stable at that. And talk about a massive world map (all of the DC and Vegas wastelands) with tons of mods (nearly every great FO3 or FONV mod have been converted for it). You can play almost forever and never see or complete everything and play in a very good survival mode if that's your thing.

For me personally I like FO4. I like to just roam around scavenging and killing things so for me it's fine. I'm not really that much into quests because I find most to be tedious and repetitious but I do some of them for variety. So far Far Harbor is pretty good and Automatron was ok. Do not care much for settlement building so in that regard I ignore any of that, at least right now, unless a quest requires it.

I am still trying to 'get into it' and have started the game for the 3rd time.

The first was before any DLC's and:

.... the story didn't catch me.

.... the environment is certainly big time lackluster.

.... The only 2 characters that kept me going were Deacon and Nickie V.

.... Strong I hated ... he annoyed the hell out of me.

Then I tried some Mods to see if that would improve the game?

.... Some of the mods helped, some.

Then Robot DLC.

.... That too was just not catching my attention.

Then Wasteland Workshop.

.... That made it so a few my mods stopped working.

But even after these, I still found the storyline and such, boring.

I now have Far Harbor and the first weapon I get, Violent Hooked Harpoon Gun w/a state of 443 damage and it was like, disappointing. It took 5 Harpoons to take down a Mirelurk. I have some base game weapons that will do it in 2 shots.

Did they just not have good writers to plot out a good storyline?

Yea, sorry, the jibe about why modders do what they do was a little unfair but I believe kudos from consoleers in time, will have influence that has little to do what PC players can do.

And pulling unfeasible weapons out of your a$$ refers to not being able to see (or wear) the weapon you are equipped with. Which in the case of the hundreds of horribly ugly and ridiculously infeasible Pipe-Guns might be understandable but then where is the motivation to craft the stunning accurate models of firearms of we have seen in previous games.

Sure all the modder has to do is include another model that's rigged as an item of clothing, but that taken with the stupid Pipe-Guns and some other stuff I'll get to, all amounts to a move in a direction I do not like.

As far as I can tell they did away with wearable weapons because of the new (cardboard judging by it's durability) power armour system - which is also atrocious as far as I'm concerned. And because Fallout is a first person shooter.. right?

Well that isn't how I play it On-My-PC, I have acog scopes on right click so pardon me if it looks (to me) as though Bethsoft have said to themselves lets just milk the PC players and modding community for stuff we can punt to Consoleers while basically palming them off with a console-port game.

@Royhr Yes, The Tale Of Two Wastelands is epic and I have a plugins.txt set up to click into TTW pretty much all of the time and one for WOP-Warzones etc. etc. You might like Bounties (complete set) with a HQ companion like Niner or Willow for an interesting playthrough.

But crushed and incredibly pissed about what we got for FiascO4 and give them more money to elaborate on the mess - No Chance!

I'm much the same. I had to force myself to finish my first and only playthrough, I did try and start a new character but I couldn't, all you can do is change the appearance and gender, the lack of choices, limited dialogue options and voiced PC mean you can only play as the character Bethesda came up with. For me it'll need a total conversion to save it, it doesn't feel like a Fallout game and it's not an RPG, it's a third rate shooter set in a not very interesting world, Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row and Just Cause all do the open world shooter thing better so why would I bother with this?
