Pete Hines confirms being able to turn of quest markers via twitter

They're referring to being able to turn off quest targets (which you can do)

Seems to me it's exactly like Oblivion. As long as you don't have a quest set as your main focus you will have no markers for that quest. As far as directions are concerned Todd confirmed those to be in back in March.

The markers are optional .. the map may be 3D but is that really that big of a deal? .. PreOrder and get that nice clothe map .. then just never open the map and turn off all markers if it all bothers you guys that much.. that just leaves the compass .. yep .. theres a compass .. big deal .. without markers all its going to do it show north and south .. maybe nearby towns and important spots .. Theres really no need for the kind of heat this topic takes. o_O

No, he was referring to the quest markers.

"By high-tech 3d gps" I'm referring to the 3d-map, with whatever bright flashing markers and pointers there is on it. I simply dont think it fits the game at all. Like I said in my original post, a classic 2d-map or at least something that looks like a real type of map your character would carry around with him/her would be a more logic design to the game. The compass should of course still be around, for obvious reasons. Eventhough it's a lot funnier to navigate by landmarks ;)

Of course it's a big deal! It's like using a paper-map in a Star Wars game :P Completely out of place. And since this is a huge modding-community, I dont see why we shouldnt criticize even the little things. Half the fun with these games are the possibility to change/improve whatever we dont like with it, instead of simply having to accept/ignore it as you're suggesting.

This may be a bit off topic, but the map is confirmed to not be made out of cloth.

It's not burlap, it's a burlap like heavy material.

Not even Pete knows what it's made of.

Modder here.... yeaaa..... and modding community REJECTS your idea,.. thank you and come again please :)

jk jk.

but seriously,.. that 3d map is meant for the player, not the character,...

and I am not sure you'd find many modders who share your thoughts, thats a rather nice map bethesda made, and a modder would struggle to top that one anyhow.(Beth learned from oblivion i guess...)
