The thread title is interesting. I have played Oblivion many times now, each time with a completely different mod set. A few mods (normally utilities or game's mechanic changer mods) being common to all setups.

 

For once I prefer to have one overhaul at a time, they conflict badly and I don't mean the kind of technical conflict that can be solved by patches, I mean conceptual conflicts. Don't get me wrong, by no means I'm telling is wrong to use all them together and actually they make for another experience and for most, very good experience. Still can be said all hardcore gamers should try different setups at least once, may be surprising how the game feel so different with each one.

 

Edit for clarity sake: by conceptual conflicts is meant each overhaul has its own virtues and feeling, deserving being played by itself at least once in all it's immaculate glory. In some cases two or more great mods can't just play together, Kvatch changers being excellent examples. Playing all them together is yet another experience and perfectly valid experience.

 

Those that have spare disc space should try mTES4 manager which greatly help having more than one fully functional Oblivion installation (a must for Nehrim) and making changing them a nobrain. Actually that utility is almost obligatory for modders to make and test mods under different environments.

 

So, that's it, that time playing a "serious" lore friendly game, that other time populating the game with creatures to such extent you can expect to find a clanfear invading your house at night or can't take more than a few steps in the wilderness without being assaulted by hordes... does not matter, each setup has a fun in itself.

This is about the least-modded setup I've played in a long time, but I wanted to "go back to the game's roots" and play without any body replacers or major changes like UL. I'm playing through a bunch of large quest mods (currently The Lost Spires) and I prefer the stability and compatibility, not to mention performance is really great this way.
