In many nations, it's impossible to charge the head of state for a crime until they left office or in fact cannot be charged after they become head of state (as in even if they leave they are still are immune) and there are known cases where people escaped serious charges because of power/connection/money etc. However, this does not mean that it is acceptable for someone to escape prosecution for a crime. No one is above the law and if people escape charges pressed by the prosecution, then it makes a mockery of our legal system. The whole point of the courts is to insure that all those who are guilty are sent to gaol and all those who are innocent are free.

You only have to look at celebrities and millionaires to find the answer. People like Lindsay Lohan get away with up to 90 days jail time for possession of drugs, whereas your average person would probably be looking at several years and whatever else they throw at you. No one should be above the law, and no one, regardless of money, fame, power, etc should suffer less than everyone else.

Today it seems many famous people are. They have so much money they can pay bail for everything. And even if they can't get out through bail, they usually seem to get out of jail early for "good behavior." Which is wrong obviously because what about the other criminals who deserve to be free because they have exhibited "good behavior." That's excluding, rapist, and murders of course.

Either that or they whine and cry, and the press runs with it, and they get let out early........
