OBSE on Windows 7 64 bit

I know this topic has been discussed before and I have read those forums and tried the suggested fixes to no avail. I can not get Oblivion to load at all with the OBSE loader. I have Windows 7 64bit and even though there seem to be people online who say it works for them, it will not work on my system. Most of the mods I like require OBSE and I don't even won't to play Oblivion without it.

I am keeping my old XP desktop up for now until I can find a solution to this problem. Has anything new been discovered to fix this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I am running Win7x64 Pro. Game is installed to C:\games\oblivion. UAC is on with a medium setting. OBSE Installed and ran fine the first time I tried. Tested with OBSE loader & using the OBMM launcher - both worked.

Did you make the mistake of trying to install OBSE like a mod? If so, please read the instructions as it is not a mod and does not install like a mod. One example is it does NOT go in the data folder with the mods. It goes in the oblivion folder with the Oblivion.exe and oblivionLauncher.exe

For those who don't know, both OBMM and Wrye Bash have a built in one click Oblivion launcher that checks to see if OBSE is installed, if it is they start the game with OBSE. Handy if you are doing troubleshooting or have made any changes using either of those programs. You do not have to exit OBMM or Wrye Bash to start the game.

To avoid accidentally starting the game without OBSE, I recommend changing the oblivion launcher (the icon that you click on to start the game) to point to OBSE and not OblivionLauncher.exe - to do this RIGHT click on the icon. select 'properties' from the drop down list. Select the shortcut tab at the top of the window that opens. Edit the 'Target' line, usually just change the \OblivionLauncher.exe to \obse_loader.exe

I installed obse with the executable file provided, it located my Oblivion install on D drive without a problem and installed there. Vanilla Oblivion works fine on my Windows 7 system, it will not open up with obse, it immediately crashes. I use OBMM and have tried launching the obse loader from OBMM and manually.

Just a final post for anyone else that might have this problem in the future. The problem turned out to be the display settings. I was making an assumption that vanilla oblivion was working because the launch menu was coming up; not so. When I clicked on "Play" the game crashed immediately just like with obse.

The problem was the display settings. Once I clicked on "Options" first and changed the display resolution to the proper setting for my display (1920x1080) i then went into the game and created a save so the .ini would save my display changes. After doing this the game works perfectly, with or without obse. This has been a problem for weeks and I can't believe it turned out to have so simple a solution.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts on this forum, the suggestions go me started on the path to this answer.
