El`derina
i highly doubt compression methods have come THAT far... it seems to be a combination of many factors really.as others have said, we will see soon enough. who knows... maybe bethesda has made some major advances in the tech they use and have started a new era of gaming once again!I jest... adelsmud
I'm all for it taking 6GB only, but they have way more varied voice acting than oblivion. So the audio alone should add a few gigs right?
elderiii
I'm almost wondering if the 6GB just refers to the amount on the disc and we will have to download the rest of it through Steam after activation..... :/
Blu02
Ooor, they're simply just shipping half the game  No, really, it's called optimizations and compressing. It can be done on so many levels, I dont doubt they would be able to fit it all within 6gb if they really put enough work into it. I'm also counting on them cleaning up the install from junk-files this time (Compared to Oblivion lol), which can save them a LOT of space. You'd be surprised to see how much crap many developers leave behind in their games!
NAPALM13092
Wasn't Oblivion less than 6gb with all the DLC and The Shivering Isles? I don't judge a game on harddrive space alone. Shogun2 takes 32gb yet it is just a RTS with a few dozens units, a single campaign map, and a few factions. Borderlands is 7gb and that game is huge with thousands of weapons. Morrowind was only 700mb if I remember yet one of the greatest RPGs of all time. Dragon Age Origins with all the DLC is 15gb yet it is copy pasted forest, tunnels, no open world, and few weapons. I can go on and on about how required harddrive space has nothing to do with the quality of a game or even the amount of content in most cases. Ghogiel
Wasn't Oblivion less than 6gb with all the DLC and The Shivering Isles? Correct. it was around 5.5ish all in. I'm not totally surprised that it is 6GB. The voice bsa's are always the largest, I suspect that this time around this is where a good chunk of the extra size comes from. I predicted it to be over 5gig just because of all the extra sound files I was expecting.

Ghogiel
Is Obs BSA compression really any different than F3.. nope. I am doubtful the assets will be packed that much tighter tbh. And I don't fear. I think 6GB is actually quite a large considering everything. I reckon a big chunk of it is going to go into added voice files. I didn't think there was going to be a whole lot more assets in skyrim compared to Ob+DLC+SI put together. It's sized pretty much what I thought it would be anyway. jedimembrain
todd howard said himself in an early interview that there will be a lot more because they have gotten much better compression .. I doubt he would say that if they were using the same tech
Ghogiel
They aren't doing too good then. If Skyrim has a vast amount over 50% more assets than OB has then I will be fairly surprised by that. To me, asset wise, I'm guessing that 50ish% is looking quite a good bet.
