Zito4ngel
I have deleted the stuff of steam, then i close and i type C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E into the run box and i get windows cannot find it HEEELLPPP im so pissed of with this steam s*** im not waiting for 3 hour download Im running windows 7 and the steam foldeer was in my Program Files(x86) but i moved it over to Program Files and tried and it still failed first make sure that your steam folder is located at that path you write in the run box, if it is on a different drive, you need to change the C:\ to the correct path of your drive. ( the same goes for the disk drive path aswell )also, to find the exact path to the steam.exe file, right click it and go to properties, on the general tab the file path should be visible. ( third line from the top ) secondly make sure that you don't forget a letter or symbol in the command, from what you wrote you forgot the " : " after -install E example: "E:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe" -install D:instead of "E:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe" -install D ( also remeber the spaces etc. if not, then windows can't recongnize the path / command ) don't know if that was the case only when you posted in the forum or if you also did so in the run box. hope this helps a little. -Zito Edited November 11, 2011 by Zito4ngel

I get as far as when it says "installing from disk" and then I get everytime The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes. After which it just stops or starts downloading the game! Aaaaarrrrgggh :wallbash: I paid 50 euro's for a physical copy and I cant even install it. :ohdear:
parapet
Like a lot of other people, I've not been able to get it to install from the DVD either. I have a high speed connection, but it still takes an hour to download what should have installed in just a few minutes. So I went to the Bethesda site and used the contact for to register a complaint. What's the point of buying the DVD when for all intents and purposes, all it does is install Steam? I would suggest that everyone who is having a problem do the same, maybe it will get their attention: http://www.bethsoft.com/eng/contact_email.php
lvltiger
I thought it worth posting this before peoples disks start dropping through the letterbox. As we know from New Vegas having the game on DVD doesn't mean that Steam will actually use the DVD to install the game, you put the DVD in, Steam then ignores it and downloads the thing instead. This is fine for most of us but no good for those with limited bandwidth or a crappy connection. This is how you force Steam to install from the DVD...... Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc *Log in to Steam and click on Library.*Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.Insert the first disc into your computer.Close Steam (Steam > Exit).Press Windows Key + R to open RunIn the Run window type: "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E: Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc. *(The first two lines are for those reinstalling a game, ignore those.) https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5357-FSQM-0382 For me that line would be "F:\Steam\Steam.exe" -install D: (note the space before -install, you must have that space there or it won't work) what exactly did you type into run?doesnt seem to be working for me the way im typing it. It just pull up steam and i press cancel. theirs no download after that...

The Skyrim launcher is still running when i go type that stuff into RUN. I press ok on RUN and it pulls up steam and asks for password. I then click on the Skyrim launcher and press download. Nothing Happens. at all.
JimboUK
Start Steam and login so you don't get that when you try to install, check your game library within Steam and see if it has Skyrim listed there, if it has right click on the game and select delete local content, now close Steam. Put the DVD in the drive and close any autorun window that comes up. Now hit Winkey+R to bring up the run box and type in what's in the guide, making corrections for the filepath to your Steam.exe and your DVD drive. A standard install on a PC with only one hard drive and the DVD as drive D would be "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install D: (note the space before -install and the also the quotes). maboru
(Just replied with this on another thread, might as well post it here too as there's a couple of new threads popping up every minute now!) I have the disk too and I installed, verified, allowed the patch to download and was playing the game in just over 12 mins total. Here's what I did - 1.) Logged on to my Steam account (If you don't already have one then log on to Steam and register for one, you don't have to have any games in it yet) and left the window open.2.) Put the DVD in my drive (make sure you have 'autorun" disabled) went to "My Computer" clicked my DVD drive and double-clicked "Setup".3.) Followed the prompts for entering the Key and watched as the install screen said "Installing from Disk" until it finished, waited a minute or two for the patch to download and install from Steam (you can't easily see that happen, just wait until a little window pops up very quickly from your task bar and the lower part of the Steam window says that the download was complete.4.) Hit "Play" and it was off to the races (after the game initializing phase.) Should work for anyone I would think. Good Luck (always needed for Beth games!). BarefootWarrior
I'm confused. Why can't I just install from my DVD, that's what I bought it for. Try as I might, I gave in and set up a account with Steam, and I'm not crazy about this idea at all. I want nothing to do with Steam. I am one of the lucky ones and everything downloaded very quickly, but I fail to see why after spending $60 on this thing why I have to create an account with Steam to play it. Granted, installing some games, you have to 'activate' on-line now days, but I did not expect this. Call me old fashioned ( and in some ways I am ) but when I spend this kind of money for a game, I expect to be able to install it from the DVD and not have to create an account with outside sources to install and play it. For those folks who have a slow or bad internet connection, this has to be frustrating.
maboru
You don't have to play on Steam (unless you're into "achievements"). At the top left corner of your Steam screen just click on "Steam" and click "Go offline". You never again have to return there until you want a new patch. Edit: You do have to make a shortcut from "SkyrimLauncher" to your desktop and launch from there. (At least until SVSE is put together and the modders go to town with it!) violettowers
I am finally in, having solved my problem with running Steam - it hated my mobile broadband dongle, for reasons best known to itself. Third wifi place I tried on the high street was OK for it, so I'm all updated and installed and whatnot. I was hoping to spend a month in my pyjamas speaking to nobody but the pizza guy following the release of a new Elder Scrolls game, but instead I've had to go outside and sit in shops! Not good enough! Thanks so much for posting the fix, I can see that'd have ended up another day of frustration! Now to get on with enjoying the millions of bugs the rest of the forum are talking about....
