Taxation

I'm going to take $20 from your wallet and buy you a cd with it.

It's not theft since you're getting the benefit.

How about: I am going to take 20 dollars from your wallet, and use it to pay a soldier that protects your rights with it? Or, would you prefer that the military was self-funded? (I.E. THEY would come and get your 20 bucks, but probably wouldn't be quite so nice about it......)

Guys, this thread was necro'd, just leave it lol.

"lol". Taxation is an topic never gets old or dies. Most revolutions were fought about this and today we have higher Taxrates than ever before.

But for those who thing taxation is okay, and not so bad, and for a good reason. .:

Imagine this:

You have a Friend. His Name is Bob, and bob is a nice guy.

Than, another friend of you showed up, says hes in a bit of trouble and need money to buy shoes for his children. You give him some money, but Bob does not.

Maybee you think thats anti-social, and Bob should be forced to help other people with his money. Many, way to many, people show such reaction.

But you would feel yourself bad for forceing him to do such thing, someone else should force him to do the right thing. So, we need someone who does the dirty work part of this social gesture.

Lets call them the Government. The Government can force Bob to give up a part of his money to help other people. So everyone of us can feel good, can think its the right thing and there is no individual person to blame for these actions of theft.

But, does it make it right? Is it more social to robb everybody just because someone might be need their help/money? And if you and your friend overvote Bob for such a system, does it make it right?

Ofcourse not.

- But we all enoy public benefits like public roads

No one ever asked you if you would even need these things. For an example, maybee Bob doesn't have a car.

There are way more fair systems of funding such as toll roads. And there is already a tax on every gallon of gasoline.

- Public Healthcare!

Just sucks. Every adult Person which lifes in such a socialist country and ever needed a treatment knows that.

You can't choose your treatment, you have to take what they appropriate to you. And you can't buy a private insurance because than you have to pay for both.

And by the way. Which one of you is willingly to pay for the skisport accidents and life long smoking of other people?

- Schools!

One of the worst things ever. I don't even need to comment that, but its the worst kind of brainwashing and dumbing down of children based on the principals of dog training.

And they conceal how many it costs, one year in school for a kind costs a little asset. For most useless, never needing Bull you will pay a life time.

And these radikal leftwing teachers unions will vote for every taxlaw which brings them more of your money. What do you think will they teach the children.

libertarianism is all about contracts, and grown adults entering into them of their own volition.

Yep, and every resident of the USA has entered into such a contract with the State of their residence, as well as with the USA, regarding the payment of taxes and benefiting from various social services, if they don't like their implied contract they can get the f out of this country.

Or take it back.

Just mildly curious, how do you propose we do that? Last time in my state when the people decided that the tax on whiskey was in error was Shay's Rebellion and they sent federal troops to prove their side of the argument, relatively conclusively I might add.

Who's talking about reality?

We are talking about whether taxation is morally wrong or not.

You are. You stated that sales tax is voluntary, which is a conclusive observation of fact. You did not state it COULD or MIGHT be voluntary if we change what sales tax is applied to.

Don't deflect blame to me for your own inability to accurately convey your thoughts in a manner that doesn't cause confusion.

I choose to pay sales tax or not to, by choosing to buy an item or not to buy it. This is a moral tax, in that it is my choice pay or not to pay.

Again, I pay sales tax on food and clothing. Can I choose not to walk naked in the cold? Can I choose not to eat? There isn't comprehensive public transportation where I live. I must drive a car to and from places. I pay a price for gasoline which includes something like a 30% upmark to account for taxes. Can I choose not to pay these too by not buying gas and being unable to support myself because I can't go to work? Your distinction is moronic at worst and naive at best.

Actually you can walk, just where do live that there is sales tax on food?

"Only Five states — Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Oklahoma, and South Dakota— tax groceries fully but offer credits or rebates offsetting some of the taxes paid on food by some portions of the population. These credits or rebates usually are set at a flat amount per family member. The amounts and eligibility rules vary, but may be too narrow and/or insufficient to give eligible households full relief from sales taxes paid on food purchases"

Erm...what?

WV has between a 2-6% sales tax depending on the type of food. It was a straight up 6% until a few years ago. http://www.tax-rates.org/West_Virginia/sales-tax

I wont even go into the 42 cents per gallon we pay in taxes on gas. Might have to backtrack on this one my friend.

Why is sales tax any worse? Income tax requires you to work, but so does a sales tax. You can't buy things without making a income.

no true. what about welfare and food stamps? my tax money goes to them so they can live basically free.

its not about being taxed, its where the taxes go. and the things that are taxed. inherited money for example. why in the world should the government tax that. whomever made all that money had it taxed as they were making it. if they are giving it to someone (as in leaving it in a Will) it shouldnt be taxed again!

and then they use said money to give to people on Wellfare and crap who dont work?

People who buy food with welfare and food stamps are a small part of the US.

Welfare is not for people who are lazy, it is for people to temporally live until they can find a job. The system is abused by a few and it needs to be slightly reformed.

To be quite honest, inherited money causes a rather large problem with the upper class. I don't even want to go into that.
